SUNDAY PLAYS & I'LL REPLY TO A FEW EMAILS
With some confidence from yesterday's success, here are today's pro plays:
Cincinnati at Cleveland +3
Bengals haven't been impressive, especially on offense. RB Cedric Benson is hurting & Carson Palmer has been fair to really dreadful. They didn't score a touchdown in their home win over Baltimore, had real trouble putting away a horrible Panther team & were down 31-3 to the Patriots before scoring 3 garbage-time TD's. T.O. threw his O-line under the bus on Friday blaming his lack of catches on Palmer not getting sufficient time to throw the ball. Cleveland is 0-3, but they've had a lead late in every game. Peyton Hillis went off last week against the Ravens with 144 yards. I think Cleveland will win the game.
San Francisco at Atlanta -6 1/2
After getting flogged by Kansas City last week, giving up 207 yards rushing, the Niners returned home to fire their offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye. This was less than 24-hours after Mike Singletary gave him a vote of confidence. Did Singletary make this decision or did it come from higher up? Now they have to travel 3,000 miles to play another good rushing team in the Falcons. Falcons by 13.
Houston -3 1/2 at Oakland
The Raiders just find new ways to lose. I'm sticking my neck out a little here as Texans' WR Andre Johnson has a very sore ankle. But the Raiders give up chunks of yardage on the ground & the Texans are 5th in rushing. Houston is also #2 vs. the run, I just can't see Oakland covering anything less than a touchdown.
To Wyatt, thanks for reading & I hope you have a great time in Vegas. My favorite restaurants would include Emeril's New Orleans Fish House in the MGM, Morton's Steakhouse on East Flamingo, All-American Bar & Grill in the Rio Hotel & the best buffet & the best coffee shop are both in the Bellagio. The first two are somewhat pricey. Another great steak experience is at Smith & Wollensky's on the strip across from the Monte Carlo. Make sure you visit one of the better sports books like Bellagio or Caesars, the Bellagio poker room is second to none. There is plenty of nightlife, but some of it is ridiculously expensive, be careful, know what you're getting into. Shopping at Caesars or the Fashion Show Mall is superior in every way. There are roller coasters, aquariums, white tiger sanctuaries, fountains, volcanoes, pirate battles & many outstanding golf courses. Plus a trip to the top of the Stratosphere Tower is really a must. Do it at night, seeing the strip from 1,000-feet is very cool. Plus if you have the nerve, you can ride one of their thrill rides on top of the tower. Hope that answers your questions.
To PatR, thanks for reading, glad to hear you won your office pool & unlike most of these deals, you have a season component. I like pots like these & I'll do my best to make you a winner.
To GBG1, thanks for reading, but I'm not ready to jump Oregon over Boise State & Ohio State quite yet. I pointed out last night the Ducks have given up over 1,100 yards on defense, which bothers me. The PAC-10 is starting to look like the Big-12 from a couple of years ago, a helluva lot of offense & not much defense. I don't know how well this will translate when they have to play a tough opponent outside the PAC-10. My top ten would be:
1. Alabama
2. Ohio State
3. Boise State
4. Oregon
5. TCU
6. Nebraska
7. Oklahoma
8. Auburn
9. Utah
10.Arizona
To StiffBiff, thanks for reading, nice screen name by the way. You, like many readers have an extremely selective memory. I never said Tony Moeaki "was going to suck" as you phrased it. I said he had an extensive injury history, there is no argument for that, it's a cold, hard fact. I also said I wanted every Chief draftee to become All-Pros, I love the Chiefs, I want them to win, I want them to be Super Bowl champs. I'm certain I've seen way more Chiefs' games than you have, I've suffered far longer than you have, remember the Chiefs have won exactly 2 playoff games since January 1970, over 40-years. This is not a history of success, they are certainly fair game. I refuse to laud them with praise when they've done so little to deserve it. That being said, I'm thrilled they're 3-0, I'm happy anytime they win, but let's not confuse 3 wins with Super Bowl potential.
