SUNDAY PLAYS
Yesterday was a split, winning easily with Michigan State & then watching Auburn fritter away two 17-point leads before winning by 3-points. The only positive note was I wagered a little more on State, so I was a small winner yesterday. I have four plays for today.
Denver at Baltimore -7
This is a sandwich game for the Ravens, Steelers last Sunday & New England next week. The Broncos are the worst running team in the NFL, averaging just 2.2 yards per carry & 55 yards per game. Playing the Ravens in Baltimore is tough enough, playing there without a representative running game is an almost impossible task. Being one-dimensional against Ray Lewis & company is about as difficult as it gets. Kyle Orton has been terrific at QB for the Broncos, but they're attempting to make a major leap in competition without enough weapons. Broncos have 4 sacks in 4 games & cornerback injury issues. Flacco to Boldin may be huge today.
Atlanta at Cleveland +3
Atlanta has just escaped the past two weeks, winning because the other team refused to. I'm a fan of the Falcons, but they haven't played up to expectations. The Browns have played everyone close this season & getting a field goal at home gets my attention.
Kansas City +7 1/2 at Indianapolis
ESPN.com reports the Colts rank 31st in the league in defending the run between the tackles. Teams are averaging a whopping 7.6 per carry in the middle of their defense. The Colts are not what they've been in years past, they have an extensive injury list at RB, WR & S. More than a touchdown? I'll take the Chiefs.
Tennessee +7 at Dallas
The Titans travel well because they can play defense & run the ball. Dallas is coming off the bye week. I like a mobile QB & Chris Johnson's running against a very tough Cowboy defense. The Titans will get after Tony Romo, his protection has been sporadic.
Tyson Jackson & Ryan O'Callaghan will not be active for Kansas City today. Today, 10/10/10 is Brett Favre's 40th birthday, with all that has transpired this week, I doubt it will be a good one.
