WINNERS & LOSERS FROM SUNDAY, UNDERDOGS RULE THE DAY & I'M 2 & 11 IN THE OFFICE POOL PICKS, WOW, I STINK

Sunday winners:

Tampa Bay quarterback Josh Freenman who completed 20 of 33 for 280 yards & a touchdown in the Bucs come from behind win in Cincinnati 24-21.

The Detroit Lions who pummeled the Rams 44-6, winning only their third game in the last 37. This team still has a long way to go, but they're headed in the right direction & pounding someone, anyone, in front of the home fans, is a good thing.

The Baltimore Ravens look like the Super Bowl contender I envisioned before the season began. They run the ball well with Ray Rice, Willis McGahee & Le'Ron McClain. Joe Flacco continues to improve & then there's that defense. Denver managed only 39-yards rushing today.

Tennessee, getting a reputation for rough-house play, went into the Jones-Mahal & mauled Tony Romo & the Cowboys. This team is relentless, they were angry getting off the bus after the way they gave Denver a win last week.

The Redskins stumbled into another win, besting Green Bay 16-13 in overtime thanks to a missed field goal with no time left in regulation & an Aaron Rodgers interception in overtime that set the table for a Graham Gano 33-yard field goal to win it. Just like last week the Packers failed to score a single point in the second half, this time it cost them.

Matt Forte of the Chicago Bears ripped off two first quarter touchdown runs of 18 & 68-yards & the defense made them standup, whipping Carolina 23-6.

New York's Giants put a complete beatdown on the Houston Texans 34-10 & the game wasn't as close as the score might indicate. The Texans were held to just 195 total yards & 24 rushing. The NFL's leading rusher going into today's games, Arian Foster, was completely shut down, gaining just 25-yards on 11 carries. Eli Manning shredded Houston's secondary with a 27 of 42 for 297-yards & 3 touchdown day. This is their second consecutive dominating performance. Sadly, the Chiefs will have to visit another angry loser when they travel to Houston next week.

Kevin Kolb may have temporarily quieted the Michael Vick bandwagon. His 21 of 31 for 253-yards & a touchdown was enough to lead the Eagles to a road win in San Francisco, 27-24. His passer rating of 103.3 was excellent for being on the shelf for over two weeks. If Brent Celek hadn't dropped a couple of passes, Kolb's evening would have been bullet-proof.

Danny Amendola is quickly becoming Sam Bradford's favorite target in St Louis. The diminutive slot receiver, an undrafted free agent from Texas Tech(just like another smallish undrafted Tech grad, Wes Welker) has already caught 33 passes for 303-yards. Bradford needs more receiver help, but Amendola is an emerging threat for the Rams.

The underdogs ruled the day, not just covering 8 of 13 games, but winning all eight straight up, not something I've seen in many years. Five of these losing favorites were playoff teams plus San Francisco & Houston. Brutal day for those who like laying points. I bet three dogs, unfortunately two of them were Kansas City & Cleveland, both blowing their covers with 4-minutes to go in the game. Tennessee won straight up & my only favorite was Baltimore & they romped over Denver.

Sunday losers:

San Diego special teams coach  Steve Crosby.
In their three losses, the Chargers "non-special" teams have surrendered a 94-yard punt return to Kansas City, twin kickoff return touchdowns in Seattle & today, Oakland blocked two punts, one for a safety & one for a touchdown. That's thirty points in three games.

Norv Turner's ass ought to be getting pretty warm as he sits atop the AFC West hot seat. They blew their second game with a holding call on all-pro tight end Antonio Gates, knocking them out of field goal range in the last minute of their loss in Oakland. On the next play, Phillip Rivers' arm was hit, the ball came out & was returned for the clinching touchdown in Oakland's upset. San Diego hammered Jacksonville & Arizona, but they've looked like another team altogether in their three losses.

Todd Collins was good news & bad news subbing for Jake Cutler. The Bears won but his performance was dreadful, he completed just 6 passes in 16 attempts for 29-net yards & four interceptions.

Drew Brees looked mortal today, throwing three interceptions, the last one leading to a 28-yard return for score by Dominique Rogers-Cromartie, clinching Arizona's upset of the defending champions.

Mike Singletary is going to have to go I think, he could be a fine defensive coordinator but as a head coach he just hasn't shown enough to make me believe in him. The Niner fans feel the same way.

Chad Ochocinco & Carson Palmer continue to disappoint Bengal fans. Palmer's throwing interceptions & Chad hasn't been much of a factor all season. The third interception Palmer threw today in the last minute was particularly bad. With running back Cedric Benson rushing for 144-yards, all Palmer needs to do is not lose the game. Which is exactly what he did.

Jake Delhomme was forced into action for the Browns when Senaca Wallace injured his ankle. Delhomme, which is Cajun for turnover, wrecked a perfectly good Cleveland effort with 2 interceptions & a fumble. One of his picks was returned by DE Kroy Bierman 41-yards for a score with just 4-minutes remaining in the game. When Wallace left the game he had completed 11 of 15 for 139 yards & a touchdown. His passer rating was 124.0, Delhomme's was %$#@!!!

Aaron Rodgers threw an interception in overtime to set up the winning field goal in a 16-13 loss to Washington. On that play, Rodgers also sustained a concussion. No word on how serious it was.

Who is worse, Buffalo or Carolina? Good question, they're both awful, the Panthers managed only 147 total yards on offense today, scoring just 6 points. Winless Buffalo was tied 20-all midway thru the 3rd quarter & then watched as Jacksonville moved up & down the field scoring 16 points to clinch their third win of the season.

Terrell Owens, in addition to losing in the closing to minutes at home today, apparently posted something on his Twitter account about 40-minutes before the Bengals game with Tampa bay kicked off, which is a violation of league rules. His teammate Chad Ochocinco was already fined $25K by the NFL for this exact violation. Nice focus.

The Dallas Cowboys continue to find ways to lose. They score the tying touchdown in the 4th quarter, then over-celebrate in the endzone & draw a 15-yard penalty on the kickoff. Titans kick returner Marc Mariani promptly returns the kick 73-yards inside the Cowboy 10-yardline. The Titans scored three plays later. Dallas accumulated 12 penalties for 133-yards. Tony Romo was sacked 6 times & threw three interceptions. This team is so undisciplined, so unfocused, I can't see a way they right the ship & make the playoffs. People in the media act like the Cowboys can just "turn it on" & win week after week. Ain't gonna happen, I think the Cowboys are done.

Me, how can a person go 2-11 picking winners??? It happens from time to time, I'm guessing the winners out there in all of your office pools have less than 7 right. I picked some underdogs to win, unfortunately they were Kansas City, Cleveland, Buffalo & Carolina, hey don't laugh, I thought Chicago's Todd Collins would suck & he did, just that Carolina sucked way worse.
