WILDCATS WIN BEATDOWN IN LAWRENCE, ONE MORE TWITTER BAN, COLT TO START & MY FEARLESS OFFICE POOL PICKS

I watched most of the Kansas State-Kansas "Sunflower Showdown" tonight & if you just looked at the box score, you wouldn't imagine the score to be so lopsided, you know like 59-7 in favor of the Wildcats. Both teams had 20 first downs. The time of possession was within 13-seconds of being the same. KU was very good on 3rd down, converting 13 of 22. What the Jayhawks didn't have was Carson Coffman. The K-State quarterback had the game of his life tonight completing 15 of 16 passes for 184 yards & 2 touchdowns. Plus he ran 10 times for 42 yards & 3 more touchdowns. How did Kansas ever beat Georgia Tech?

Alabama & Michigan have agreed to play each other at the Jones-Mahal in September of 2012. I'll say this for Jerry Jones, he does schedule some first rate non-conference college football games.

A player on my watch list is sophomore WR Justin Blackmon of Oklahoma State. The 6' 1" 207-pound leaper has already scored 11 touchdowns in just 5 games. He has 47 receptions good for 748 yards. Granted 4 of their opponents are out of conference, but still very, very impressive.

North Carolina has joined Miami, Boise State & others in the "No Twitter Zone." Coach Butch Davis, probably not long for Chapel Hill, announced the ban today. Very bad decisions & Twitter wrecked the Tar Heel program this season.

Two injury notes: Philadelphia left offensive tackle Jason Peters will not play this Sunday nor Oakland QB Bruce Gradkowski. One more injury to report on, Cleveland starter Jake "the turnover" Delhomme or his backup Seneca Wallace won't be able to go on Sunday, both have high ankle sprains. That leaves rookie Colt McCoy as the starter. Tough start, the Browns play in Pittsburgh.

So I really did stink up the place with my "Office Pool Picks" last week, going a dreadful 3-11. A buddy from Las Vegas sent me an email yesterday telling me not to sweat it, I was in good company. Let me explain. The Las Vegas Hilton has run a football handicapping contest for well over 20-years. The Supercontest, as it is known, requires participants to pony up $1,500 to enter. You pick 5 pro games against the spread by Thursday afternoon & at the end of the season, the guy with the best record walks away with nearly $200,000 cash. The Supercontest has been won the past two seasons by the same guy, Steve Fezzik, last year he pocketed $198,000. With an entry fee so blasted high, the field is littered with professional sports gamblers & the 2010 payout pot totals $525,000.  Last weekend the field didn't fare too well, nine of the top-10 most selected picks lost. They not only lost against the spread, they lost straight up, nine of ten. Sooooo, I'm certainly not happy so many selections went down in flames, but it demonstrates how difficult this is. Undaunted, here we go again, the teams in bold letters are my picks. Good luck.

Cleveland  at  Pittsburgh

New Orleans
at  Tampa Bay  could be a very close game

Miami  at  Green Bay  tough call here, Pack really banged up & Miami coming off bye

at  Philadelphia  Falcons have already won in New Orleans & Cleveland
