HOLY CRAP, BAD NEWS ON THE "VICIOUS HITS" STORY PLUS CHIEFS MAKE THE ONLY TRADING DEADLINE DEAL

I said I was worried about the NFL's kneejerk reaction to some of the hits we saw over the weekend. I had good reason because the league has in fact over-reacted in a major way. Steeler LB James Harrison was fined $75,000 for his pair of blow-up hits on Josh Cribbs & Mohamad Massaquoi, neither were helmet to helmet or hands to the head & neither drew a penalty flag. Atlanta CB Dunta Robinson was fined $50,000 for his collision with Eagle WR DeSean Jackson. Once again, Robinson hit Jackson with his shoulder pad, both were at full speed going in opposite directions. The only penalized, helmet-to-helmet hit, was from New England's Brandon Meriweather & he was also fined $50K. I'm going to need to read the league's explanation of these fines to get a feel for what they're looking for with this discipline they've imposed.

The Chiefs were the only NFL team to make a trade deadline deal today. They traded defensive lineman Alex Magee & an undisclosed draft pick to Tampa Bay for an undisclosed draft pick. No other details were available. Pretty exciting stuff huh?
