HUGE S*#T STORM COMING FOR THE NFL, PELINI IS CONFUSED, JAGS HAVE QB TROUBLE & MIKE LEACH TO MINNESOTA?
I wasn't going to write another post tonight, but something came to my attention & I had to get this up before I went to bed, it just pissed me off so badly. The NFL fined Pittsburgh linebacker James Harrison $75,000 today for two hits on Cleveland receivers Josh Cribbs & Mohamad Massaquoi last Sunday. Tonight, I read something on NBC Sports Pro Football Talk that absolutely enraged me. The same NFL that fined Harrison is selling pictures of the hit on their website, NFLphotostore.com. You can buy various sizes from 6x8's for $15.95 all the way up to a double-matted 15x20 for $249.95! This blows my mind. How can they do this? Fine a player for a hit & then turn right around & sell a photo of it? Rather hypocritical wouldn't you agree? I'm going to print this photo right off their website, without their permission, because everyone who follows the NFL needs to see this.

Bo Pelini admitted at his daily news conference he's confused as to why his Cornhuskers haven't been more consistent at home. Since he arrived in 2008, Nebraska has an 8-3 road record, which is pretty strong, losing only at Va Tech, Texas Tech & Oklahoma. But at home the Huskers have lost 5 games over the same period. Losing to Mizzou, Va Tech, Texas Tech, Iowa State & Texas. He said his assistants are looking into why they can't have a better winning percentage playing in Lincoln. Here's hoping they don't get it figured out too soon, Mizzou plays at Nebraska October 30th.
The Baylor Bears can become bowl eligible very soon, something they haven't done since 1996. Art Briles has made this program competitive & with a win over Kansas State or A&M, the Bears can go bowling. Their other three games are noticeably tougher, at Oklahoma State, at Texas & Oklahoma to close out the season.
Another successful turn-around is out at San Diego State, where Brady Hoke has really turned the Aztecs into a very competitive team. He led the 2008 Ball State Cardinals to a 12-0 record before moving out west. The 4-2 Aztecs could very well be unbeaten had it not been for "Mizzou's Moe Miracle" in Columbia & their nasty 24-21 loss at BYU last week. The review replay officials made such a glaring mistake that cost San Diego State the game, all three were suspended. SDS hasn't been to a bowl game since 1998 but they look to have enough to get there this season.
As the Jacksonville Jaguars lick their wounds from their 30-3 defeat on Monday night football, they have real quarterback issues. Starter David Garrard suffered a concussion & his backup, Trent Edwards sustained a thumb injury to his throwing hand. Edwards said today he might need surgery. With Luke McCown already on injured reserve, the Jags could be down to Todd Bauman, who was signed today. They are also looking for another quarterback as Garrard might not be cleared to play with the short week. As poorly as this team played last night & these QB issues, I really like the Chiefs' chances to rebound Sunday, hopefully starting a 4-game winning streak.
The Minnesota Golden Gophers are awful. The school sprung for a new outdoor stadium that debuted last season & the team has absolutely stunk up the place since. Coach Tim Brewster has already been informed he will be fired at season's end. Athletic Director Joel Maturi, somewhat of a knucklehead for his recent choices in football coaches, said "it's not like you're following Vince Lombardi here." Yes Brewster has been terrible & according to SI.com's Stewart Mandel, everyone who comes in contact with Brewster loathes him. But Maturi's bad choices go back to Glenn Mason, who after very limited success, was given a large raise in the form of a 4-year contract extension. After Mason's squad blew a 31-point lead in the Insight Bowl to Texas Tech, Maturi canned Mason. But he had to give him over $3 million in walking away money. Now he'll have to payoff Brewster to get rid of him. Maturi wants a "name" coach. The rumors circulating in the Land of 10,000 lakes is none other than former Texas Tech madman, Mike Leach. He's currently involved in a wrongful termination lawsuit with Tech & is calling games with Roger Twibell on CBS College Sports. leach wants to get back into coaching & the Big Ten would be quite a stage for Leach. But what would the Gopher Alumni think of Leach as "the guy?" Having endured decades of average to mediocre teams, they just might go for it, they know they need to fill that new stadium. Leach might be "the guy" to do just that.
