CHARGERS RECEIVERS BANGED UP, CHIEFS GET 3 BACK, DUCKS PUT UP 60, PAC-10(12) ANNOUNCES ALIGNMENT & THE OFFICE POOL PICKS
The Chargers, go into what must be described a must-win game with New England, with a receiving corps that is a mess. Leading receiver from '09, Antonio Gates, has an ankle sprain & he'll be a game time decision. Second leading receiver from '09, Vincent Jackson, is still unsigned but he said he will report by the 29th. Second leading receiver this season, Malcolm Floyd, is doubtful because of a hamstring pull, third leading receiver this season, Legedu Naanee, is questionable with a knee strain & fourth leading receiver this season, Buster Davis missed practice for the second day, but probably will play on Sunday. The only WR's who practiced on Thursday were Patrick Crayton & Richard Goodman(who?).
The Dolphins lost their #1 draft pick, DE Jared Odrick, for the season after he re-injured his leg in practice Wednesday. Odrick broke the leg in the preseason & only played in one game so far this season.
The Chiefs got three players back from their injury list on Wednesday. DE Tyson Jackson, S Kendrick Lewis & WR Chris Chambers all participated fully in practice. ROT Ryan O'Callaghan was also removed from the injury list. While their opponent, Jacksonville, is playing quarterback roulette, Kansas City appears to be completely healthy. In other Chiefs' news, DL Shaun Smith had his $10K fine rescinded by the NFL. He was originally fined for being a little too grabby in the "man region" during the San Francisco game. Game video didn't provide visual evidence of anything illegal, so Smith is free to grab again.
Oklahoma lost this season's third leading receiver when WR DeJuan Miller tore his meniscus & will miss the remainder of the season.
Oregon, looking like the #1 team in the nation, beat large knots on UCLA to the tune of 60-13. The Ducks looked like a well oiled machine rolling up 582 total yards. The only way you can beat this team is to score a bunch of points & have excellent depth at every defensive position. As fast as the Ducks snap the ball after each play, there's no way a defense can substitute, but after each series, you need fresh troops to possibly get a stop. Oregon plays at USC on the 30th, beyond that, only the traditional "Civil War" game with in-state rival Oregon State can keep the Ducks from going undefeated in my opinion. The Ducks have been held under 31-points just twice in their last 20-games. UCLA held them to 24 last season & Boise Sate held them to 8, also last year, Oregon not picking up a first down until midway thru the 3rd quarter. The Ducks were held to 152-total yards. Oregon returned 17-starters, Boise, 20. There's about zero chance the Ducks will see Boise come bowl season unless a lot of things fall right for the Broncos.
If you're so inclined, you can do a little scouting of your own this Saturday as you'll be able to watch two matchups of high caliber NFL-type talent. In the Wisconsin-Iowa game, you can watch my 3rd rated offensive tackle, Gabe Carimi(#68 at left tackle) go against my #1 rated defensive end, Adrian Clayborn(#94 at right defensive end). They'll bang on each other all game long. Another great matchup is in the Nebraska-Oklahoma State game between Cornhusker cornerback Prince Amukumara(#21) & Cowboy WR Justin Blackmon(#81). All four of these prospects should go in the top half of the first round, Blackmon isn't draft eligible until next year, the other three will go in April.
Today the PAC-10(12) Conference announced their new alignment for 2011, when Utah & Colorado join the league.
North Division
Oregon, Oregon State, Washington, Washington State, Cal & Stanford.
South Division
Arizona, Arizona State, UCLA, USC, Utah & Colorado
I went 8-6 in last week's Office Pool Picks. Here we go for week 7, once again, my selection is in bold letters. Good luck to all.
Philadelphia at Tennessee Titans have won 11-straight games vs. the NFC
Cincinnati at Atlanta AFC is better this year, but Cincy has been a big disappointment
Cleveland at New Orleans Saints continue soft schedule with Browns & their rookie QB
Pittsburgh at Miami Steelers on a mission, Miami has too many DL injuries
St. Louis at Tampa Bay Can Rams win 4 in a row? I don't think so. But they're definitely better.
San Francisco at Carolina Tough picking Niners, but Panthers battling for the #1 draft pick
Washington at Chicago Skins get after the QB, Bears can't block anybody
Jacksonville at Kansas City Jags down to 3rd string QB, Chiefs rebound in a big way
Buffalo at Baltimore You're kidding me right?
Arizona at Seattle Flipped a coin, Seahawks won
Oakland at Denver Raiders find a way to lose week after week
New England at San Diego won't be shocked if SD wins, it's a must-win, but too many injuries
Minnesota at Green Bay Can't see a way Packer OL keeps Vikes DL off QB Rodgers
New York Giants at Dallas I could see 'Boys winning, also a must-win, but how can I pick them?
