WADE PHILLIPS SENT PACKING.......FINALLY & D.J. GETS 5-YEAR EXTENSION
During last night's debacle in Green Bay, NBC color commentator, Chris Collingsworth, said "I don't think Wade survives this night." He was right & it's hard to understand why it took Dallas owner/general manager/stadium builder/massive ego Jerry Jones, so long to see this coming. The game NBC billed as "The Pride vs. the Packers" was an embarrassment to not only the Cowboys, but the league itself. Putting the leagues lamest band of underachievers on the premiere telecast was pathetic. In typical Jerry Jones fashion, Phillips found out he'd been fired before he ever heard from his boss. The Dallas media was alive with reports of his dismissal several hours before he was officially let go. "The Pride" you say?
Offensive coordinator Jason Garrett, another over-rated massive ego, now has his shot to get something out of this team in the last half of the 2010 season. I have my doubts & those doubts aren't there because of the injury to Tony Romo, I just don't think Garrett is head coaching material. If he was, why hasn't he been hired away from the Cowboys before now? He's been there since 2007 & his name is almost never mentioned during the off-season hiring & firing frenzy.
The Kansas City Chiefs made a smart move today when they signed linebacker Derrick Johnson to a new 5-year contract extension. The deal is worth $34 million with a little over $15 million guaranteed. DJ floundered under several coaching staffs & schemes, but the arrival of Romeo Crennell helped to elevate his game to an all new level. He's playing near a pro bowl level & continues to make plays every week. It only makes sense to retain & reward the guys who have embraced the new scheme with a total commitment not only makes sound financial judgment, but it sends a signal to the rest of your team, play hard, produce, the rewards will come.
