INJURY LISTS, DEMOTED, PROMOTED, A SENTENCING & THE OFFICE POOL PICKS

Shawne Merriman lasted exactly one practice before being injured. Merriman had joined the Buffalo Bills on Tuesday, not willingly, but joined them nonetheless. He endeared himself to his new teammates & the western New York fans when on day one he remarked "I'll definitely not be resigning here." So now he's injured, what a guy.

The struggling Dallas Cowboys received bad news on the injury front when starting defensive end Marcus Spears & kick returner Akwasi Owusu-Ansah had to be placed on injured reserve. New Cowboys' coach Jason Garrett conducted his first practice as the boss by putting his players in full pads for some hitting.

The Steelers lost two offensive linemen during Monday night's game & then Wednesday, starting left tackle Max Starks was placed on I.R. with a bulging disc in his neck. Big problem for Pittsburgh as they're left with Jonathan Scott to man the blindside.

New England kicker Stephen Gostkowski was placed on the injured reserve list with a quad pull. Shayne Graham will replace him for the remainder of the Patriots' season.

There are rumors around Kansas City that running back Jamaal Charles has a mystery leg injury, that's why he had only 15 touches in Sunday's loss in Oakland. The Patriots-West administration at One Arrowhead Drive is completely mum on the topic, I'm trying to get to the bottom of it for you.

Dolphins' coach Tony Sparano benched quarterback Chad Henne for this Sunday's game with the Titans. His new starter is will be Chad Pennington. I don't know about this choice, I think if I was to bench Henne & was facing the brutal Tennessee pass rush, I think I'd be more inclined to start scrambler Tyler Thigpen. Pennington is the definition of "sitting duck."

The Bengals cut tight end J.P. Forschi & signed Chase Coffman of their practice squad. Cincinnati is a trainwreck. T.O. & rookie Jordan Shipley are playing at a very high level, other than that, this team stinks. Chad #85 is becoming a terrible distraction to his team & needs to shape up or ship out. His behavior during Monday night's game really hurt his reputation, he's more trouble than he's worth right now.

Dave Meggett, a running back formerly with the Giants & Patriots, was sentenced to 30-years by a South Carolina jury. Meggett was accused of burglary & rape & didn't testify in his own behalf. He admitted to police he had sex with the college student, claiming it was consensual. She said Meggett broke into her apartment & told her she owed him $200. She told him she didn't have it in the apartment & Meggett said he "was going to take a sexual downpayment on the debt." He grabbed her by the throat, pinned her arms behind her back & proceeded to rape her. When he finished, he cleaned out her purse & left. Meggett's attorney said he planned to appeal the length of the sentence, but unless Meggett takes the stand at some point, he better get used to prison garb. This wasn't Meggett's first charge involving forcible sex. He was arrested in Toronto for getting rough with an escort service worker after a 3-way encounter. Sad had far some of these guys fall.
