RAVEN DEFENSE FAILS WHEN IT COUNTS

It used to be you could count on the Baltimore defense, especially when the game was on the line. No more. For the 4th time this season, the Raven defense gave up the tying or winning score in the last 5-minutes of a game. How Un-Raven-like of them. Actually most of the blame falls on the secondary, but tonight a pass interference penalty & a back judge who was looking the other was as Roddy White shoved cornerback Josh Wilson to the ground just before Matt Ryan's pass arrived were just the ticket for a 26-21 Falcon victory.

Both quarterbacks threw three touchdown passes but Baltimore almost doubled Atlanta's rushing total. Atlanta had little success running between the tackles, normally their bread & butter. Matt Ryan threw 50-passes, not the best strategy for beating the Ravens, but it worked. The Falcons were 17-1 at home when Matt Ryan started at quarterback, make that 18-1.

The win moves the Falcons a full game ahead of the Saints, whom they have already defeated in New Orleans. The Ravens fell 1/2 game behind Pittsburgh, who plays Sunday night against the Patriots. My AFC Super Bowl pick had better find some late-game defense if they are to make any kind of an impact during the playoffs.
