MIZZOU CRUISES IN BORDER WAR, COLLEGE PLAYOFFS JUST A DREAM FOR ANOTHER YEAR & THE "I TOLD YOU SO" CROWD OUT IN FORCE

Once again, the Missouri Tigers prevailed over the Kansas Jayhawks in the Border War game at Arrowhead. They cruised, despite a disappointing performance from Tiger QB Blaine Gabbert. He threw two interceptions that demonstrated he needs another full season in college. Neither pass should have been thrown, the second one set Kansas up for their only score of the game. He gave them a short field, they converted, halting Mizzou's shot at a third conference shutout. As talented as Gabbert is, he makes far too many bad decisions. With all the returning talent on offense, 2 deep ay QB, 4 deep at RB, 6 deep at WR & every offensive lineman except the center Tim Barnes, they should be able to score, only Gabbert's decision making is a question. The defensive backfield will be all new plus two linebackers will need to be replaced. A new Big-12 schedule will be in place next season, everybody plays everybody, nine conference games. The Holiday, Insight & Alamo Bowls are all possiblities, we'll know soon where & with whom they'll be matched.

Sorry, but as long as the Tigers win the Border War game on Thanksgiving weekend, I'm posting this picture.

For all the people who I believe to be of sound mind & body, I'm amazed at how short sighted they are. Do you people like the BCS? Do you like watching lopsided so-called championship games? Championship games that aren't filled by teams from a playoff system? Do you enjoy watching the Big East, a conference without a single top-25 ranked team, receive an automatic bid to a BCS bowl just about assuring a mediocre game? Do you like watching the ACC, another conference that has no business playing in a BCS bowl, give us another crappy matchup in a BCS bowl game? Sometimes, the Big East or ACC simply don't have any business being ranked by the BCS(like this year), but they'll both have representatives out there, getting embarrassed, putting you to sleep. If you had a playoff, you would get the best eight teams in the country, almost all of the time. You could still have the bowl games & you would have a true national champion in Division 1 football. Does the public really want to see UConn play Nebraska, Stanford or the like? I'm sick of watching crappy bowl games, the false hype, the phoney matchups & the predictable outcomes. If you have an 8-team playoff, you would have something & the other bowls could go about their business inviting the also-rans to their partially filled stadiums just like we've seen for years. Boise State's run was our opportunity to crack this BCS crapolla once & for all. The big boys would run screaming for the cover of a playoff. They just don't want any outsiders butting in on their good thing. They want to keep all the money to themselves, no outsiders. I know you've heard this before, but it's true, this is all about money. It changes people, it compromises their integrity, their honesty. It makes people say things they know nothing about, like Ohio State President E. Gordon Gee. It makes a very smart man look clueless & petty. Is that the example he wants to set for his students? That's what money does, especially in a down economy, it makes people do & say stuff they honestly don't believe.

I said last night after the Boise State loss in overtime the "I told you so" crowd would come out smoking today & I was right. Too bad so few of them really understand the scope of what occurred last night. Many of them love the status quo, they don't want anything changed. So when Boise lost, it was "I knew they weren't that good" & "they had no business being ranked so high." I even saw a writer refer to their conference, the WAC, as Nevada, San Jose State & Eastern Montana. Eastern Montana, there is no such school in the Western Athletic Conference. Eastern Montana is a Division III school that has never had a football program. "They don't have any real talent" I read several places. Kyle Wilson was the jets' #1 pick out of Boise State, Ryan Clady is a Pro Bowl tackle for Denver, also a first round draft pick from Boise, so stop with that argument. They'll have several players from this team playing in the NFL. If I see another writer or blogger say "let 'em join a real conference" I'm gonna scream. Is that how it works, you want to get into a bigger conference, you just go, they have to accept you? Get a freakin' clue people.

Think about this for a second, do you honestly believe the SEC, BIG TEN, Big-12 or PAC-10 wants Boise State in their conference? Forget about their football program for a second. Other than the PAC-10, travel would be a nightmare for the other conferences. Boise's Bronco Stadium holds 33,500 people, it's not fiscally feasible for a team like Alabama or Penn State to play in Boise, they can't generate enough revenue. Does Idaho have a plethora of recruitable football talent a visiting team could court? You know how Mizzou takes a full 1/3rd of their recruits from the state of Texas? Don't see that either, so what does Boise State bring to the table for one of the super conferences? the obvious answer is nothing, these conferences have nothing to gain & everything to lose. So stop, once & for all, saying "make Boise join another conference." They're moving to the Mountain West next season, another conference with zero BCS respect, but at least it's tougher competition. They'll be forced to play TCU, BYU & Air Force every season. I know it's not the Pitt, Rutgers, Louisville juggernaut, but it's an improvement.

The contemptible commentary regarding Boise's schedule is laughable. Where was all the condemnation when Butler made the Final Four last spring, losing only to Duke in the Championship game? Butler has been a ranked team for the past 5-6 years right(like Boise)? They play in a mid-major conference(like Boise) that normally sends one or two teams to the field of 64. Nobody said boo when they were there last season, so ridicule, no "Little Sisters of the Poor" comments from the powers that be. Butler whipped Syracuse, Kansas State & Michigan State on their way to their showdown with Duke for the championship. They got there thru a playoff. They beat the teams in their path to reach the title game, the same result any team in an 8-team football playoff would get. You know, a fair chance?

As long as the bowl committee's use their power for private jets, golf retreats & private deals, college football will never have a true national champion. Would Butler's image have been dragged thru the mud had they beaten Duke? Come to think of it, they might have a taken a hit or two. I'm sure the big conference guys would've said "if Butler played Duke ten times, Duke would've won nine of them." Maybe, but did they win when it counted? In college football, we'll never know, so go ahead & rejoice over the first loss in 25-games Boise State has suffered. Your short-sighted gloating is exactly why college football isn't as good as it should be.
