THANKFULLY NO HEISMAN SURPRISES, NEW GATOR COACH IS A SURPRISE & TWO MONDAY NIGHT GAMES TOMORROW

Thankfully, there were no ugly surprises at tonight's Heisman Trophy Award ceremony. Cam Newton won, as he should have, he won by a huge margin. Andrew Luck finished a distant second, with less than half the points of Newton. Oregon tailback LaMichael James was third & Boise QB Kellen Moore finished fourth.

Just before the ceremony the University of Florida announced they have a new head coach & it was a surprise. Former Texas defensive coordinator Will Muschamp took the job. He was the "head coach in waiting" at Texas. Now the 5-7 Longhorns have lost both coordinators as Greg Davis resigned last month as offensive coordinator. Muschamp was paid as much or more than probably half of the Division 1 head coaches, but the lure of heading up one of the premiere programs in the country was too much temptation & he jumped ship. The Florida announcement claimed Mushchamp was the only candidate that was interviewed & the only one to be offered the job. Several highly rated recruits were balking after Urban Meyer resigned plus several redshirt freshman were talking about transferring, so the Gators had to move quickly.

Matt Cassel didn't accompany the Chiefs to San Diego. Safety Kendrick Lewis will be a gametime decision because of an ankle injury. San Diego running back & return man Darren Sproles underwent a neurological exam Saturday afternoon to see if he could be cleared to play today. Results of that exam were not announced. WR Legedu Naanee did not participate in Saturday's walk-thru so he continues to be doubtful. WR Patrick Crayton has already been ruled out for today's game. Expect WR Vincent Jackson & TE Antonio Gates to play despite not practicing all week.

With the New York Giants still in Kansas City & concerns for the amount of snow on the roof of the Metrodome, the NFL had no choice but to postpone this afternoon's game until Monday night. So the Giants & Vikings will kickoff at 8 PM ET & the game will be televised on Fox in the New York & Minneapolis markets only. If you have DirecTV's NFL Sunday Ticket, I have no idea if we'll be able to watch the game Monday evening. The delay also gives Brett Favre another 30 or so hours to heal enough to start in his 298th consecutive game. No word from interim coach Leslie Frazier regarding Favre's availability at this time, he might not decide on a starting QB until late Monday afternoon.
