CASSEL WORKS IN PRACTICE, RICHARDSON BACK WITH MIZZOU & THE OFFICE POOL PICKS

It was good to hear Todd Haley say "without any level of secrecy, Matt Cassel is day to day." He threw in practice & took almost all the snaps with the 1st teamers. It will be interesting to see how he comes back on Thursday. Let's hope he doesn't take a step back.

The Sal Alosi mess just got messier. When questioned by Jets' officials on Monday, Alosi failed to mention he had ordered 5 other sideline personnel & players to form a wall next to him before a Dolphin punt. Apparently someone spilled the beans & for his less than forthcoming answers, he has been suspended indefinitely, which probably means his services as New York's strength & conditioning coach will no longer be needed. I have to believe after this revelation, if the Jets don't fire him, the league will step in & make sure he no longer has any NFL-type sideline privileges. What a scumbag.

UPDATE@ 6:45AM CT
Watching ESPN's Mike & Mike in the Morning, I heard something that actually surprised me. Both Mike Golic & Brian Billick said they had "no doubt that Rex Ryan knew what was going on" when Alosi lined up 5 inactive Jets to block the sideline & Miami gunner Nolan Carroll. They showed the video about twenty times & what really caught my eye was Rex Ryan was standing about 3' away from this "wall" so their point was well taken by yours truly. I have a feeling the league won't be satisfied with the discipline handed down by the Jets.

The re-opening of TCF Bank Stadium on the campus of the University of Minnesota is quite a sight. It's bustling with activity 24-hours a day in an attempt to get the facility ready for the Vikings & Bears on Monday night. They're asking for volunteers to help shovel the snow-covered seats. The Twin cities have over 2' of snow in the past six days. The already wrecked roof at the Metrodome ripped more this evening, dumping more snow & ice on the field. In other news that would suggest both Brett Favre & Tavaris Jackson may not be able to go come Monday, the Vikes signed Patrick Ramsey off the street & he just might start ahead of 3rd string rookie QB Joe Webb.

In other NFL injury news, Giants' WR Steve Smith is now finished for the season with a torn meniscus. He had 48 catches for 529 yards & 3 TD's. The Chargers listed Antonio Gates as doubtful again plus LB Larry English(foot) & WR Patrick Crayton(wrist) have been ruled out for tomorrow night's game with the Forty-Niners.

Mizzou got one of their flock back on Wednesday as DT Sheldon Richardson signed a JUCO National Letter of Intent to play for the Tigers. He was ranked as the third best player at any position coming from the junior college ranks this year. He scared everybody in Columbia when about 5-weeks ago, he did a verbal about face, saying he had changed his mind & was now going to USC. He went on & on about playing for Monte Kiffin & preparing for the NFL, the post season ban didn't bother him. Well something changed his mind because he's signed & sealed for Mizzou & Richardson said he'll enroll at MU in January so he can participate in spring football. This kid's shaky, but he has a mountain of talent. The only remaining question is, can he make decent grades?

My 12-4 record from last week put my season record at 130-78. The Niners play at San Diego tonight & I have this weird feeling this game is going to be a lot closer than the 9-point line. Frisco desperately needs this game, they're just 1 game out in the miserable NFC West. Super tough selections this week.
