RAIDERS VS. CHIEFS, A FEW FACTS & A LITTLE OPINION
First, a few facts about today's Oakland-Kansas City game:
With a win, the Raiders would become the first-ever NFL team to sweep their division & not make the playoffs.
With a win, the Chiefs would complete a perfect 8-0 home record, Only New England, home vs. the Dolphins today, goes into the final day of the season with a like home record..
Jamaal Charles is currently #2 in league rushing stats, just 56-yards behind league-leading Arian Foster of the Houston Texans. Foster faces Jacksonville today in Houston.
Charles' gaudy 6.4 yards per carry average leads the rest of the league essentially by a country mile. No other back ranked in the top-10 has an average of 5.0 or higher, does that put his stats into perspective? He will join four other backs with 200+ carries in league history to average over 6-yards per carry.
Dewayne Bowe is currently 2nd in the league in scoring amongst non-kicking players. His 15 touchdowns is one behind league leader Arian Foster.
Tamba Hali has 12.0 sacks this season, two behind league leader Cameron Wake of Miami. The Raiders have surrendered 40 sacks so far in 2010.
The Chiefs currently have 34 sacks as a team, 2 more than they totaled in 2008(10) & 2009(22) combined.
The Chiefs have elevated Tyler Palko to the #2 quarterback spot today.
Oakland's leading rusher, Darren McFadden, will be inactive for today's game with turf toe. Pro Bowl DT Richard Seymour won't be in uniform either.
Question:
Which is more important, Matt Cassel's 27 touchdown passes or his measly interception total of 5?
Before I throw my vote toward Josh McDaniel to be the Chiefs' next O-Coordinator, I want you to remember this warm & fuzzy moment between Todd Haley & McDaniels played out in November:

One has to wonder if this relationship would be as difficult as the one Haley had with the soon-to-be-departed Charlie Weis? I'm not a big fan of McDaniels, but I do believe he could be the leading candidate considering his history with Scott Pioli & Matt Cassel. Remember, it was the Chiefs' GM who wanted & hired Weis, not Haley. McDaniels just reached a buyout settlement with the Denver Broncos, clearing the way for him to be employed elsewhere. Another name I'm hearing is Cleveland Browns' O-Coordinator Brian Daboll. If Eric Mangini is canned tomorrow, Daboll will be on the street & his experience in this offense as a wide receivers coach & history with Pioli could make him a top candidate as well.
Any Chiefs' fan who can recall the showboating, pass-dropping knucklehead WR Dewayne Bowe was just one year ago should shudder when you read this quote he spoke to Sam Mellinger of The Kansas City Star.
"I always knew I could be a great player, I just needed to humble myself"
Yikes.
