GABBERT'S HEADING TO THE NFL

Mizzou football fans got the news they were fearing, QB Blaine Gabbert is taking his act to the NFL. Tho the deadline for underclassmen declaring their intentions for moving on to the NFL is January 15th, Gabbert made the decision over the weekend & the school made it official just about 30-minutes ago.

Tho I hate to see him go, I sincerely think he needs another year at the collegiate level, it makes financial sense. Gabbert could very well by the 1st quarterback taken next April if Stanford QB Andrew Luck stays in school. Luck is by far, the best quarterback prospect currently in college. The other underclassman in the mix is Arkansas' Ryan Mallett. You can catch Luck tonight in the Orange Bowl & Mallett tomorrow night in the Sugar Bowl.

Gabbert started 26 games for Mizzou, he finishes 2nd in most of the school's lifetime passing stats. He has prototypical NFL size at 6' 5" 240-pounds, he can make every throw required of an NFL quarterback, his arm strength & accuracy have never been in question. His decision making is what most scouts question, the game-changing interception he threw in last week's Insight Bowl that was run back for the winning score is exactly the kind of decision he makes from time to time. Like many quarterbacks, Gabbert is somewhat arrogant regarding his abilities. He thinks he can jam a ball in a tight spot or put just the right touch on a throw to get it over a defender & he ends up in trouble. Don't get me wrong, I think he has the tools to become a solid NFL quarterback, I just question his maturity. He's not Sam Bradford & he could very likely be thrust into a situation like Bradford found himself in with the Rams. Drafted by a terrible team & expected to produce regardless of the talent level around him. Very tough situation, I hope he's up to the task.
