UNBELIEVABLE PROSPECT, TIC PRICES GO DOWN IN S.D. & BROKE MILLIONAIRES

Last night I was lucky enough to watch a 11:46 minute video of the number ranked high school prospect in the land, Jadeveon Clowney. If his name sounds familiar to some of you, Jadeveon made my "Real Name of the Day" once. I was so amazed at this young man, I watched the video twice. The Rock Hill, South Carolina native stand 6' 6" & weighs in at 250-pounds. I do not know his 40-yard dash time, but believe me, for his size, he's a blazer. The video was taken from 12 games his senior season, he plays defensive end & is a short yardage back inside the 10-yardline. I counted 23 1/2 sacks, 25 tackles for loss, 2 interceptions, 7 defensive touchdowns & 8 offensive touchdowns. Four of those defensive touchdowns were on fumble returns he caused & one was on an interception. To say this kid jumps off the screen is an understatement of huge proportions. He's amazing, I saw a running back, on a draw play from the 22-yardline, burst upfield & 42-yards later, Clowney caught him from behind, he simply ran him down. He claims he hasn't made up his mind as to where he will attend college this fall, but his list is pared down to Alabama, South Carolina, Clemson, Florida State, North Carolina & LSU. From what I saw last night, someone's getting a kid who can take a game over with his non-stop motor & ridiculous talent.

Former Pitt coach Dave Wannstedt has landed in Buffalo where he will become the Bills' linebacker coach & assistant head coach for Chan Gailey.

Al Saunders, former Chiefs' offensive coordinator under Dick Vermeil, will fill the same position for the Oakland Raiders. Chiefs' fans should not be happy about that move, Saunders is a high quality O.C.

President Obama said yesterday if the Bears go to the Super Bowl, he is going to the game. No President has ever attended a Super Bowl game in person, 3 Vice Presidents have, but never a President. The logistical nightmare that is Super Bowl security would increase about 10-fold if the Bears make it to Dallas.

The San Diego Chargers became the 2nd NFL team to reduce ticket prices for some of their seating. Bothered by blackouts & the threats of blackouts, the Chargers have lowered some 6,500 seats 15% for the 2011 season. Honestly, I don't know if that's enough.

As the NFL season is winding down with just 3 meaningful games remaining, the college all-star games begin tomorrow. The East-West Shrine Game will be televised on The NFL Network tomorrow afternoon at 3 PM CT. Then on Monday, Senior Bowl practices from Mobile Alabama will be televised twice a day, also on the NFL Network. The game will be next Saturday afternoon at 3 PM CT. I will see every practice & both games & I'll fill you in with all the interesting goings-on down in Mobile. The NFL Scouting Combine begins next month & runs for 5 days on The NFL Network. They usually provide about 20-hours of coverage. With 56 underclassmen declaring for April's draft, the combine should be very interesting, provided your as big a football geek as I am.

Two stories of former NFL players caught my eye this week & neither is a good story. Former defensive end Chidi Ahanotu, who played with 5 different teams over an 12-year career, had his final divorce decree read in court Tuesday. The judge awarded his ex-wife with Ahanotu's 2001 NFC Championship ring he won with the St. Louis Rams. Ahanotu has so far been unable to pay his $130,000 legal bills, he's behind on his child support payments & so the judge awarded the ring to his ex-wife. I'm surprised his lawyers didn't stake a claim. Ahanotu's lowest salary was $235,000 as a rookie & he made as much as $1.1 million. He is now broke at the age of 40. Charles Rogers, the 2nd overall pick in the 2003 NFL Draft, has now had his second home foreclosed on him in Michigan. Rogers received $14.4 million signing bonus as a rookie & played parts of three seasons. His inability to stay healthy & off marijuana cut his career way short. Because of the continued marijuana use, a federal judge ordered Rogers to return $6.1 million of the money the Lions had already paid him for violating his contract. He is now broke as well. He lost his main home last May & now his hi-rise condo in Detroit is gone. No word on where he will live. Rogers is just 29-years old. I blame agents & business managers for some of this distress athletes feel when it's "all over." Somehow, someway, a chunk of cash has to be set aside for a rainy day, not burned thru before they're 30-years old.

For those two people who took exception with my characterization of Al Davis being a candidate for AMC's Walking Dead series, I offer you this:

My preview of Sunday's Conference Championship games will come later today.
