DAY TWO OF SUPER BOWL HYPE & BRRRRRRRR!

The "Great Blizzard of 2011" has us truly snowed in, which is O.K. as we were prepared. But I gotta tell you, this is the strongest snow storm I have ever experienced, our house is situated at the back of a cove looking straight out to the channel & I can barely see past our dock. Can't see the channel or any other docks right now, visibility is that limited. It's been like this since about 10 AM. We have about 15-18" of snow right now & the latest is it's supposed to continue until at least 10PM. High winds, we've only gotten the 15 MPH variety so far, will kick in later this evening, gusting to over 40 MPH. We have 3 covered decks on this house & all three have over a foot of snow completely covering them. I'll have a couple of pictures for posting tomorrow but until then I'm stealing some from friends who live here at The Lake. Thanks Wayne, Chris & Blake. All of these pictures were taken today around noon.

This is County Road MM, a heavily traveled road here at the Lake, kinda scary huh?

It's Day Two of Super Bowl hype & the weather kind of stole the show on media day. Ice coated virtually everything in the DFW metroplex & it was cause for real concern. The airport has been closed since early this morning. Every single surface out at the Jones Mahal is covered in a half inch of ice. The over booked golf courses, restaurants & hotels are hurting with the 20-degree weather. An army of ice breakers scattered at the game site to chip away ice around the stadium. Even tho Texas Governor Rick Perry was calling on citizens to stay home, thousands of media members & league personnel needed to be at the stadium today & it was a challenge. I haven't heard from my buddy Mike, who lives in nearby Garland, as to just how bad this storm has affected pre-Super Bowl traffic.

For those who counted Steeler canter Markice Pouncey out of the Super Bowl, not so fast my friends. He is now walking without a cast & canes. The Pro Bowl rookie, who's been the glue on this offensive line, says he's 75% sure he will play Sunday. After suffering a high ankle sprain & a broken bone in his left ankle in the AFC Championship game, it was thought he wouldn't be able to play this Sunday. I certainly thought he had zero chance of playing. Pouncey could prove all of us wrong.

Hines Ward made a great point today regarding the NFL's crusade for player safety. "If you really & truly want to improve player safety, then drop the 18-game regular season schedule. It only increases a player's chances of being injured" Ward said. He's right, I love football like few others outside the game but I know in my heart this is a bad decision. If players somehow agree to this, it's a decision that will haunt them for the rest of their days.

I got an email asking why I liked the Packers & Steelers so much. I like these franchises because they're similar to the Chiefs. Their ownership hasn't ever changed, their fans are kindred spirits, mainly middle class people who love to tailgate & they're fiercely loyal. Arrowhead Stadium & Lambeau Field have never sold their naming rights while the Steelers did, but sold it to a local company with a century-long commitment to the city. I know a number of Steeler fans & a few Packer faithful & they are so similar to Chiefs' fans. I went to a Packer-Chiefs' game years ago & a few "cheeseheads" that sat around us were cool folks. In fact a couple of guys bought Mike & me a beer & asked us to pose for a picture with them at halftime. The Chiefs won the game by the way, they almost never lost when I came all the way from Las Vegas to see them play.

Minnesota rookie defensive end Everson Griffin is burying himself with the Vikings. He was arrested Friday night for public drunkeness. Sunday night Griffin was arrested for felony battery on a police officer & resisting arrest after battling two officers who eventually tasered him. He was released on a $50,000 bond late yesterday.

Remember the lady "journalist" who created the furor when she claimed sexual harassment within the NY Jets' locker room? Ines Sainz said she didn't want to be a distraction, she just wanted to do her job which included interviewing players. She said she would never enter a professional locker room again. Today she was among the 5,000+ credentialed media at the Super Bowl media day. She braved the ice storm, slippery sidewalks & treacherous parking lots so she could do her job. Once she took off her coat, she became the target of the media, not the Super Bowl combatants. A picture snapped on a cell phone by NFL Netowrk's Rich Eisen showed Ms. Sainz surrounded by 30-40 cameramen & reporters while players sat alone, waiting for questions, wish I could have downloaded it, but this should give you a feel for the situation. What do you think of her journalistic credibility?

For those of you affected by this storm, please stay indoors & if you must go out, be careful like you never have, it's really dangerous outside right now.
