"SEAT-GATE" CONTINUES, TITANS GET A COACH & SOME MAIL

The NFL, wanting to bask in the glow of their highest TV ratings ever or concentrate on labor negotiations, is instead buried in the horrible publicity of "Seat-Gate." Their head PR man, Brian McCarthy, said late last night the 400+ fans displaced by the unsafe seats were given field access after the game, free game merchandise, free food, $2,400 refund vouchers for their tickets & free tickets for Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis next year. What if their team isn't in the game next year? What about those fans who barely scraped together the money to go to Dallas? Is free nachos & foam #1 fingers gonna make things alright? Is this really a solution? If the league wants to this to go away quickly, they're going to have to throw real money at the problem, not try to squeeze by saving a dime or two. With an uncertain labor situation looming like the 800-pound gorilla in the room, making crap like this go away should be of the highest priority to Roger Goodell & everyone else at NFL headquarters.

So where were the other 850 fans seated after their seats were declared unsafe? The Dallas Cowboys & NFL had almost a thousand seats for low-level employees & their families, who became displaced. Try telling your 9-year old you're going back home because the league seized your seats. The whole thing is highly embarrassing.

A correction, Packer coach Mike McCarthy had his team fitted for their championship rings the Saturday before the game, not last Saturday. Still a brilliant move IMO.

The Tennessee Titans named former offensive line coach, Mike Munchak, to be there new head coach. The former 9-time Pro Bowl guard was a #1 selection of the Houston Oilers before they became the Titans. Who will remain on the staff is still up in the air but selecting the 51-year old Munchak will be popular among Titan fans.

I spoke my peace regarding the commercials during yesterday's Super Bowl, seems I don't have a clue or more correctly "we" don't have a clue, since so many people emailed their approval of my list. Brian Lowry, media critic for the L.A. Times & a contributor to NPR & Variety didn't see it my/our way. On his list of worst commercials were all of the Doritos spots as well as Pepsi Max, Best Buy's Ozzy/Beiber spot, Teleflora & Chrysler Detroit tour with Eminem. His best list included Coke's dragon commercial, movie previews for Thor & Captain America, Bud Light's dog spot & a very forgettable Kia commercial. To say he didn't like the spots on his "Worst List" is an understatement, he hated them. Apparently we aren't smart enough to grasp the subtle nuances of such sophisticated advertising. Thankfully there are people who can tell us what we should like. They know what's best for us.

KCKrissy emailed in something I agreed with wholeheartedly. She said "anytime I can watch 4 1/2 hours of TV & I'm not forced to watch an ad from Progressive Insurance or Geico, it's a good day, in fact it's great day since it rarely ever happens."

Jacob from Iowa thought Christine Aguilera's version of the National Anthem was awful & bordered on disrespectful. I agree altho I doubt she see's it as disrespectful. This is one of just a handful of songs that should be sung the way it's written. It's a very difficult song to sing, it covers almost 4 octaves, but showing off your voice by long up & down runs isn't how it should be sung IMO.

LisaJL more or less told me I had no clue about singers & singing, she thought the memory lapse was troubling, but her version of the song was brilliant. I guess we'll agree to disagree.

DudleyDuRite criticized me for "always sticking up for the QB's". I do give them some leeway because it is the most difficult position to play in all of sports. I think Mendenhall's fumble was a huge momentum-shifter as the Steelers had pulled with 4 points & had the ball inside Packer territory. If he doesn't fumble & they score, it could have changed the entire 4th quarter, that's why the play had so much impact.

LennytheCool mentioned in his email the Packers wouldn't have even been in yesterday's game if the Giants hadn't had their 4th quarter meltdown in week 15 versus Michael Vick's Eagles. Absolutely right Lenny, The G-Men would have made the playoffs instead of Green Bay.

DT58HOF said something I agree with as well. "The Chiefs are so far from being on a par with either of yesterday's teams, I just don't think KC fans understand just how far that gap really is" he said. I'm agree 100% guy, Matt Cassel vs. Aaron Rodgers? That one alone is so dramatic it cannot be ignored. There are many other shortfalls, but hopefully Kansas City is heading in the right direction.

For those who continue to email profanity & the like, I'm not going to print your comments or answer your emails until you clean it up. I swear too, but I don't swear at people or use racial or sexual references to make points. Please refrain from using these words & we can argue all you want.
