CHIEFS' DRAFT: ME VS. THE KC STAR, ROUND V PLUS THE FRIG GETS HIS RING
We move onto round five today. Adam Teicher of The Kansas City Star has selected the following prospects so far:
1. Stefan Wisniewski-center-Penn State
2. Leonard Hankerson-wide receiver-Miami
3. Sam Acho-linebacker-Texas
4. Marcus Gilbert-offensive tackle-Florida
5. Ricky Stanzi-quarterback-Iowa
So far, I have selected:
1. Phil Taylor-nose tackle-Baylor
2. Rodney Hudson-center/guard-Florida State
3. James Brewer-offensive tackle-Indiana
4. Dwayne Harris-wide receiver-East Carolina
Teicher's selection of Ricky Stanzi doesn't really surprise me, there is some fairly good buzz about the Iowa quarterback. Here's my opinion of Stanzi: At best, average arm strength, very erratic on deep throws & does not throw well on the run. His 56 TD's to 31 interceptions ratio does not speak well for his accuracy or decision making. Good feet to move around in the pocket avoiding the rush but is not any kind of threat to tuck it & run, had over 150 carries(in college sacks count as a carry) for negative total yardage. He is tough, will stand tall & take a hit in the pocket & has good huddle command. I just don't see much upside to Stanzi's game, that's the reason I'm not on board with his selection.
The Chiefs have two selections in round five near the top of the round. The 4th(135th overall) & 9th(140th) give them some flexibility. Teicher didn't pick a second prospect for the 5th round, I suppose he'll post the 2nd one Saturday. I'm interested in:
5A. RB-Stevan Ridley-LSU
A late model with very low mileage. Ridley didn't start until his junior year & then decided to go pro, he has only 323 touches as a collegian. He's a bit of a one-trick pony in that he's has not made any sort of impact catching the ball, just 17 receptions for the Tigers. He is an excellent pass blocker, easily picking up blitzers. Ridley's size, 6' 0" 228, helps his style, which is a downhill, between-the-tackles power runner. He breaks arm tackles & shows a good stiff-arm. Ridley shows good acceleration into the hole & has the power to move the pile in short yardage. A team captain last season.

5B. G/T-David Arkin-Missouri State
Started 44 straight for the Bears & was a 2-time team captain. Fundamentally sound for a small school prospect. Very solid footwork, good hand placement, nasty & mean, plays to the whistle. Played left tackle but will have to move to guard or right tackle. Strong, but could be stronger, could add 12-15 pounds of bulk too. Very smart & coachable.

David Arkin-G/T-Missouri State
5C. WR-Stephen Burton-West Texas A&M
I heard about this young man before I actually saw him at the combine. He made a good showing there but at his pro day, he impressed every single pro scout & coach in attendance. The 6' 1" 224-pound Burton ripped off a 4.38 & 4.41 forty with a 1.46 10-yard split. That was amazing for a player his size. He also leaped 35" in the vertical jump & broad-jumped 10' 4" to show just how explosive his legs are. He caught everything thrown at him during the combine. I don't consider Burton to be a boom or bust pick since I have him going in round five, but he could develop into something truly special. I won't be shocked if he's gone before round five even begins.

Missouri coach Gary Pinkel was rewarded with another 2-year extension as were his assistants. Pinkel's deal now runs thru the end of the 2017 season.
Peyton Manning & his wife Ashley welcomed twin sons into the world Friday morning. Marshall & Mosley were said to be healthy as was their mother.
Finally, a strange story to tell you. Former Chicago Bears' defensive tackle & redzone runner, William "the Frig" Perry has been suffering from Guillian-Barre Syndrome. His condition attacks his nervous system in his lower extremities, making it difficult to almost impossible to walk. "The Frig" was never one to count calories, he had ballooned up to over 450-pounds. In the past few months tho, with help from his doctors & a dietitian, Perry had lost over 50-pounds. He claims to be eating right & exercising as much as he can with his limitations. Enter 10-year old Clifford Forrest Jr. & his dad, Cliff Sr. from Fox Chapel, Pennsylvania. On a trip to New York, the pair spotted a Super Bowl ring at a sport's collectables show. The ring had once belonged to Perry, won in the 1986 Super Bowl. The dealer claimed he had no luck trying to sell the ring for over three years & only wanted his investment back, $8,500. That is a bargain price for a Championship ring, but in today's economy sports' collectables have taken a major hit in value. Junior asked his dad if he could buy it & return it to Perry. Senior said the only way he would go along with Junior's idea was to take the money out of his college saving's fund & that Junior would have to work to pay it back in the next eight years. Son agreed & they purchased the ring. I guess I don't have to tell you mom wasn't too thrilled with either of them upon their return home. They emailed the Bears, informing them they had Perry's ring & asked for the club to put them in contact with "The Frig." This all happened very quickly & now Perry has his Super Bowl ring back, no word on how it got away in the first place. Perry thanked young Forrest with a pair of autographed Bears' jerseys & a signed football. Junior's explanation for his generosity? "I thought he would like to have it more than me, so I made sure he got it back" said the 10-year old. Folks, you can't make this stuff up can you?
