JAMARCUS FIRED....AGAIN, DEZ PAYS A DEBT, JEFF FISHER GOES MOUNTAIN CLIMBING & JUST HOW INEXACT IS SCOUTING?
Former NBA guard John Lucas knows what it's like to be down & out, he was suspended from the league several times for cocaine use. Lucas was also an alcoholic & after finally getting his life together, he returned to the NBA as a coach. later, he mentored athletes who had difficulties with drugs & alcohol. His latest protege, former Raider quarterback JaMarcus Russell, was attempting to get back to the NFL. Under Lucas' guidance, Russell gained weight, failed to workout, failed to attend substance abuse group sessions & now finds himself cast adrift after John Lucas said "thanks but no thanks." Lucas made it clear that he fired Russell, not the other way around. He added "he has no current intention of getting his life in order & I can no longer, in good conscience, continue to try & help this young man find his way. There are other people wanting my help & willing to do what is needed to get better." One AFC GM said "no one in the NFL wants to get near the kid." So now, at 25 years of age, JaMarcus Russell is radioactive, a man with the patience of a saint wants nothing to do with him. He's back to square one as the all-time biggest bust in draft history. He has no one to blame but himself, he literally did this all on his own.

I told you a few weeks ago about Cowboy's wide receiver Dez Bryant & his serious addiction to bling. That addiction has caused him to be sued by three different custom jewelers for over $845,000. Can you believe it? These jewelers actually expect to be paid. Dez knocked one of the suits down by paying the jeweler enough to get him to drop the legal action. One down, two to go. Another kid in desperate need of a mentor.
Another bad actor, former Chiefs running back Larry Johnson, settled in his latest lawsuit. He agreed to pay a young lady $100,000 for spitting a drink in her face while at a Kansas City cocktail lounge. LJ said before it went to court he wanted a change of venue because "the people in Kansas City hate me, I'll never get a fair trial in that town." The reason people don't like Larry is he was constantly in trouble for spitting in womens faces, slapping them or knocking them down while he was out on the town. Nothing unfair about that Larry.
The fastest running back in this year's draft will be Eastern Washington's Taiwan Jones, who ran a blistering 4.37 forty. Guess who has shown the most interest in Jones' speed? Al Davis, big surprise, he loves fast guys. They don't even have to be good football players, they just have to be fast. I smell 2nd round for Jones when the Raiders make their initial pick.

Former Titans' coach Jeff Fisher is going to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa, all 19,336 feet of it. His climbing partners, former Patriot linebacker Teddy Bruschi, ex-Eagle tight end Chad Lewis & 4 disabled veterans. The group will climb to call attention to & raise money for disabled vets wounded in Iraq & Afghanistan. Fisher has been a long time supporter of the USO & visited the troops in the Middle east. He & his climbing partners have been practicing in Colorado before their departure for Tanzania next week. God bless men, be careful.

Anyone who thinks football talent evaluation isn't ridiculously tough, think again. Let's examine the future of one Tim Barnes, Mizzou center. I have him as a 5th round selection. Pro Football Weekly's Draft Preview lists Barnes as an undrafted free agent. The guys at The War Room for The Sporting News don't even list Barnes in their draft guide, like he doesn't exist. ESPN's Todd McShay has Barnes graded as a 7th round talent. Then there's Don Banks, Sports Illustrated's draft expert who regards Tim Barnes as the best center in the nation, yeah the best.
For those people who have emailed their opinion or the ones who rail against me on the Redzone.com, The Kansas City Star's Chiefs' blog, here's some backup to my take on Kenrick Ellis, nose tackle from Hampton. Banks lists Notre Dames' Ian Williams & Stanford's Sione Fua as better prospects than Ellis. He ranks Ellis as the 6th best NT available. I agree, I think he looked good against lesser competition & he has serious character issues, so no thanks.
