FINAL PRE-DRAFT POST INCLUDES MY CHIEFS' MOCK DRAFT

With Judge Susan Nelson's decision this afternoon denying the NFL a stay to her earlier decision to lift the league's lockout, the draft could be way more interesting. We could see trading of players, trading of players for draft picks, discussion of pending free agency & more. We'll know more about noon central time exactly what will be allowed, but I think the league may decide not to buck Judge Nelson & run the risk of contempt of court. Don't you love lawyers? Once they get the meter running, it's just so damn hard to turn them off isn't it?

I neglected to mention this earlier, but the players, "Formerly Known as the NFLPA" in their lust to scare off all the draftees from the telecast tomorrow night, they pissed a lot of people off, fans, players, their families & the networks. Glad to report 25 prospective first rounders & their families will be backstage tomorrow night waiting to hear their names called. When their names are announced, they'll hug their loved ones & walkout on stage to shake hands with the commissioner & pose for pictures with their new team's cap & jersey. It's a tradition I was glad to see saved.

If there are any late-breaking pre-draft stories, I'll try to get them on here in a timely fashion, but I have a commitment late tomorrow afternoon & I'll be away from this keyboard for about 3 hours. But here's something for you Chiefs' fans to chew on this morning. My 7-round Chiefs' mock draft;

1st Round - Phil Taylor - nose tackle - Baylor - 6' 3" 337
Offensive tackle Gabe Carimi might be the pick, so might OLB Akeem Ayers or OG Danny Watkins, but Taylor is my choice. The Chiefs are desperate to have a monster in the middle.

2nd Round - Randall Cobb - wide receiver -Kentucky - 5' 11" 192
I hope he lasts until Kansas City can make their selection at #55. Very reliable hands, good route runner & one of the three most dangerous receivers after the catch.

3rd Round - James Brewer - offensive tackle - Indiana - 6' 6" 323
Great size for a right tackle, quick get-off & feet but his footwork needs improvement when pass blocking. Four-year starter who improved every season.

4th Round - Brandon Fusco - center - Slippery Rock - 6' 4" 304
Small school stud who showed well against Div. I players in post season.

5th Round Pick #135 - Bruce Miller - outside linebacker - UCF - 6' 1" 257
Former DE, Miller had 38 sacks in 35 games at Central Florida. Good body lean & knee bend rushing the passer. Might be a situational player like Wallace Gilberry, but the kid can get after the passer, something the Chiefs are desperate for right now.

5th Round Pick #140 - Nathan Enderle - quarterback - Idaho - 6' 4" 224
Played in a pro style offense, how rare is that? Big arm, can make all the throws but his decision making needs refinement, that's a nice way of putting it isn't it?

6th Round - Kris Durham - wide receiver - Georgia - 6' 5" 214
Long, tall possession receiver. Good hands, good route runner, he moves the chains.

7th Round - Vai Taua - running back - Nevada - 5' 9" 214
Low to the ground, hard to knock off his feet. No breakaway threat, but he takes what he can get, 1-cut runner. Had a fumbling issue as a junior, only one as a senior.

I also like running back Alex Green from Hawaii, like him better than Taua, but I doubt Green will be available when Kansas City makes their 7th round pick.

The draft begins at 7PM Central Daylight time, enjoy it!
