MIZZOU SHOCKER: T. GABBERT TO TRANSFER, ANOTHER BUC IN TROUBLE & JOSH CRIBBS REVEALS HIS KENTUCKY DERBY SECRET
When the news hit this morning, I was shocked, never saw this coming & I wasn't alone. Redshirt freshman quarterback, Tyler Gabbert, yeah, Blaine's younger brother, has notified Tiger head coach Gary Pinkel he intends to transfer. Gabbert had been listed as the starting quarterback, before the spring game, after out-performing sophomore James Franklin in 4 spring scrimmages. But Gabbert's 4 of 20 with an interception in the spring game dropped him to #2 on the depth chart. But Pinkel said at the time his starting quarterback wouldn't be decided until after summer camp. Apparently that wasn't good enough for Gabbert who took less than two weeks to announce his departure from the Tiger program. His father Chuck said the depth chart had nothing to do with his son's intent to transfer to another school. It will take time, but the "why" of this transfer will come out & maybe it will make sense. So where will he take his remaining three years of eligibility? Those close to the Gabbert family say Iowa, Louisville, Arizona & Wake Forest are the likely choices. Iowa was close to signing him before Mizzou convinced him to play behind his brother. Nebraska was also in the running & the former Huskers' O-coordinator, Shawn Watson is now in the same position with Louisville. Wherever he goes, he'll have to sit out this season, but Gabbert will be ready to go in 2012. I can't remember Gary Pinkel losing such a high profile player to transfer.

The police blotter containing Tampa Bay Buccaneers just keeps getting longer. For the 10th time since January, 2010, a member of Raheem Morris' team is in trouble with the law. Former Chief defensive end, Alex Magee, was arrested after a traffic stop for expired plates & charged with possession of marijuana. He was also cited with driving a vehicle with plates that were expired for more than 6-months. Very responsible behavior. When nearly one-fifth of your roster has been arrested in 15-months, it's beyond a problem, it's a scandal. Why it's positively Bengal-like isn't it? Whenever the CBA is signed, expect Buc management to lower the boom on some of these knuckleheads.
During ESPN's NFL Live this afternoon, Cleveland wide receiver & return specialist Josh Cribbs was on discussing how organized player workouts were for he & his Browns teammates. It was a lot of yada-yada-yada until Trey Wingo asked Cribbs about his trip to Saturday's Kentucky Derby. Cribbs said since there was a horse in the field that matched his jersey number, 16, Cribbs knew he had to bet this horse & he plunked down $200 on the #16 horse. Of course the #16 horse was longshot winner Animal Kingdom. Cribbs' $200 win ticket payed over $4,300. Nice when it works like that.
I don't have any pictures of Cribbs rooting his #16 down the homestretch or cashing his winning ticket & I couldn't find a photo of Animal Kingdom I could use legally so I went with hats. When you think of ladies at the Kentucky Derby, you think big, goofy hats. Here's a big, goofy hat worn by my girl Erin Andrews at Churchill Downs. Oh yeah, Tom Brady was there too, under a pretty cool lookin' lid.
