A FEW QUICK POINTS FOR SATURDAY

As the NFL & their players continue slinging mud at one another, accomplishing nothing other than angering their fans even more, there might be football on Sundays this fall despite all the acrimony. The PAC-10 has set their collective sights on Sundays this fall if the NFL vacates the day with the continued work stoppage. The conference has already figured a schedule for one afternoon game & an evening contest. Talk about opportunistic, I wonder if they have already found a network partner for this plan?

I mentioned the fans are getting more angry as the days go by & nothing positive happens. If you look at the message boards all over the country, I can tell you, the fans bothering to post, are about 90% negative toward both sides in this argument. Players are starting to feel the wrath when they post ridiculous Tweets like Reggie Bush & DeAngelo Hall did this week. The Colts' Robert Mathis will be next to hear from fans on Twitter, he stuck his foot in his mouth yesterday by suggesting "nearly all the fans are on our side, they know the league is screwing us." By "screwing you" are you suggesting the over $4.5 million you're supposed to make this season isn't good enough? Are you suggesting you are so special you deserve more? See with just 140-characters, it's hard to get your point across & you leave yourself open to question & often, ridicule. The players ought to stay off Twitter & Facebook, they only hurt their cause.

Eagles tight end Brent Celek made a truly brilliant point yesterday when he said "I think we're starting to piss off the fans." Really????????? You think so? This is how clueless both sides are in this standoff. They take the fans for sheep, they'll come around when the season starts, whenever that is. I'm reminding you to refrain from buying any NFL licensed products from now until one calender year after the new CBA is signed. It's our only shot to make these people understand how unhappy we are. It could cost the league & the players over $200 million. Not a lot in the $9 million grand scheme of things, but it's noticeable.

Bengal running back Cedric Benson said on a Cincinnati radio station yesterday, he was expecting a sizable raise after the CBA is signed. Another genius heard from. Stop talking about money when many of your fans are struggling to get by & one of their forms of entertainment & escape, NFL Football, is endangered right now. Talk about the weather, your favorite TV show, anything but "slavery, money or the Gestapo-like tactics" employed by the league.

New Denver Vice President of Football Operations, John Elway, made a curious comment yesterday. When asked if the Broncos intended to trade Kyle Orton & start Tim Tebow at quarterback, Elway replied "Brady Quinn could very well be our starter this season." Say what?

Now that the BCS has lowered their velvet hammer on the Fiesta Bowl, don't think it's over. An Arizona Senate Ethics Committee is going to investigate the bowl, it's political influence & contributions as well as any state employee involvement. This isn't over, this bowl committee is rife with bad judgement, bad decisions & horrible ethics.

For the people emailing me about the mysterious death of Alabama offensive lineman Aaron Douglas, I'll tell you all the information I currently know. Douglas was at a bar, met some girls, went to a house party & continued dancing & drinking. He texted a friend at 11:48PM saying he was having a great time. The home owner awoke the next morning to find Douglas dead on a balcony. There were no signs of trauma & until toxicology reports come back, the coroner will not issue a cause of death in this case. Still quite a mystery.

Looks as tho Coach "Sweater Vest", Jim Tressell of Ohio State, is going down swinging. He has retained attorney Gene Marsh to represent him from here on out against the alleged  transgressions at Ohio State. Marsh is the former chairman of the NCAA infractions committee(2004-06). He is also a highly recognized expert in matters of university & athletic department compliance. It might be good to get some outside perspective, since OSU's compliance officer is also the assistant athletic director. Nice to have the wolf watching the chicken coop. His case will be heard by the infractions committee on August 12th, if he's still employed by the University. Several of his most high profile players from years' past are suggesting he should step down, save the university from any more shame. With this hiring of Marsh, it suggests to me Tressell will not go easily.
