NFLCA IS A JOKE, CLARK HUNT RIPPED BY NATIONAL MEDIA, 8TH CIRCUIT JUDGES WARN BOTH SIDES & THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT, BUT I WAS WRONG
There are 32 teams in the NFL, each with a 17-man coaching staff. The NFLCA, which claims to represent all 32-coaching staffs looks ridiculous right now. After filing a "friend of the court" brief with the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals in favor of the players, the Washington Redskins staff claimed they hadn't heard about this brief before it was filed even tho their names were on the legal document as supporting it. Mike Shanahan's staff wanted their names removed. The president of the NFLCA, Larry Kennen, not a coach, but a lawyer, said after the Skins denounced the brief "if there were a bunch of teams, I'd be concerned, I'm not concerned about one team." Yesterday, the Minnesota Vikings' staff disavowed the brief with head coach Leslie Frazier saying "we weren't contacted by the coaches association. We're always going to be supportive of our management, the Wilf family has been terrific for our employees." Today the Arizona Cardinals & Seattle Seahawks released statements along the same line. So now Mr. Kennen, 15 teams have disavowed your legal brief, which is definitely more than one isn't it? I'm guessing his employment as the president of the NFLCA will be short.
Chiefs' owner Clark Hunt got a lot of bad press on Saturday. Michael Silver of Yahoo Sports & Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk leveled some strong language at Kansas City's owner. As I told you on Friday, the Chiefs lead the league in new ticket sales, "by a wide margin" according to The Kansas City Star. Why then, according to Silver & Florio, have the Chiefs cut the pay of their office workers? You know the very few middle-class people working for the franchise? It's a good question, a fair question. Is this a move his father, Lamar Hunt, would have sanctioned? I honestly think not. Lamar Hunt was known as a very frugal person, but he was also very community-minded. Hurting the people who can least afford it just wouldn't be right to him, at least that's what I believe. This is a perfect example of how this damn lockout is fracturing the NFL community. Silver called Hunt's move "particularly unconscionable." It is tough to swallow.
Attendance at some of the loosely organized player workouts has been excellent in some cities, not so good in others. The Seahawks & Patriots just has their first workouts, nearly 50 players at each according to sources. Yesterday's voluntary workout in Philadelphia reached a Lockout low. Third string quarterback Mike Kafka, wide receiver Jeremy Maclin & that was it. A total of 2 Eagles made the practice. Rams wide receiver Denario Alexander also attended, mainly because he's living with Maclin, his former Missouri teammate, during the lockout. If I was Andy Reid, I'd be disappointed in my team, just two people is embarrassing.
The 8th Circuit Court heard 30-minute presentations from both sides in the NFL lockout. Afterward, Judge Kermit Bye warned the combatants to get back to the bargaining table because "when we reach a decision, it's probably something both sides are not going to like." That would suggest they could render a decision that could penalize both sides. I hope they take his advice & return to the bargaining table in an effort to work things out, not sling mud at each other in the media, what the hell does that solve?
Yesterday I overreacted to one person calling me a racist. My response wasn't professional in any way, shape or form. Yes it felt good to fight back to what I believe was an unfair attack on me personally. I got a lot of support in the comments & emails I received Friday & Saturday, for that I thank you. I also got a few suggestions to "ignore, ignore, ignore" or "don't lower yourself to that level, you're better than that." Not one echoed the sentiments of the reader who caused me to go on tilt. I won't let it happen again, if this guy or someone new attempts to infuriate me with hateful allegations, I'm going to ignore them. I promise. For all of you who have called me an idiot, I welcome your comments & emails, let's discuss whatever it is we don't agree on, that's part of why I do this.
Special thanks to all of you who left comments or emails, especially SMSGTFlores, AlinFla, GatewayGregg, milehighmike & NTxChief.
