TWO SUPER BOWL RING STORIES, CHIEFS HAVE LARGE TURNOUT, MIZZOU GETS NEW RADIO SIDEKICK & LAWYERS MAKING MILLIONS

The Green Bay Packer players received their Super Bowl Championship rings Thursday night in a private ceremony. It had to be separate & private as front office & coaching staffs aren't allowed any interaction with players during the lockout. Here's a look at their new ring. It has diamonds totaling 3.35 carats. Plus I've added a pick of all four Packer Super Bowl rings. Personally, I don't care for the newest one.

**CORRECTION--The league & DeMaurice Smith allowed all of the Packer family to be in the same room for the ring ceremony, players, coaches, staff etc.

Stanley Arnoux, a special teams player for the New Orleans Saints pulled into Miami's Fountainbleu hotel recently & left his car with a parking valet. The next day, Arnoux discovered his Super Bowl ring was missing, he had left it in the car for several days. Arnoux filled out a police report, but he couldn't pin point when the ring was lost or where. Two days ago, Arnoux was notified on his Twitter account, that a Miami pawn broker had his ring. The pawn shop owner, Alberto Iturrey, told Arnoux & the police, Gil Ulloa, valet manager at the Fountainbleu, had sold him the ring for a paltry $1,200. The next day Ulloa returned to the pawn shop asking what they were going to do with the ring. Alarm bells that had already gone off in Iturrey's head were now deafening. He Tweeted Arnoux & called the cops. Arnoux got his ring back & Ulloa was arrested. God, there's a lot of stupid people drawing oxygen on this planet.

Mike Mayock, of the NFL Network, my favorite pro talent scout in the football media, was asked about Terrelle Pryor's future in the supplemental draft. Mayock said "I make the over/under the 4th round, he could go in the third, but I think it will be in the 4th or 5th."

The NFL's "Broadcast Bootcamp" begins this week with 15 former players enrolled in hopes of sharpening their skills enough to get a gig doing color on the radio or for a TV network. For the first time, the student rated the best by all of the instructors will actually get a real paying job. Sky Sports, Great Britain's NFL TV home is looking for an anchor for their Sunday pre & postgame shows. Sky Sports televises an NFL doubleheader each Sunday during the regular season, as well as the Thursday & Sunday night games, plus all playoff telecasts. It should be an excellent paying job but moving to England is part of the deal.

Kenny Britt, wide receiver & chief knucklehead of the Tennessee Titans appeared in court today. He was charged in Hudson County New Jersey with tampering with evidence & resisting arrest. Both charges were bargained down to "disorderly persons" whatever that is. After the court's proceedings were finished, the Hudson County prosecutor told reporters "I'm tired of Kenny Britt, but by the same token you can't make things more serious than they are because it's Kenny Britt." The judge, Margaret Marley, greeted Britt with "stand up straight & get your hands out of your pockets." Always making a good impression, that Kenny.

Members of the Kansas City Chiefs completed three days of voluntary workouts at Bishop Miege High School in Kansas City Kansas. Matt Cassel, Derrick Johnson & Jon McGraw had organized the 3-day "mini camp." Johnson said 45 players showed up & participated. Included were #1 draft pick Jon Baldwin & #3 selection Justin Houston. Cassel, Johnson & McGraw did an excellent job getting that many players involved, they even had security to keep prying eyes at a distance. Part of the reason for that was several of the players were "borderline obese" to quote a pair of eyes at the practice & the K.C. media wasn't allowed to interview anyone or film the practice. Bishop Miege was the perfect place to hide out, former Chiefs center, Tim Grunhard, is the head coach football coach at Miege. Guard Ryan Lilja admitted the practices were a little too fast paced for him, he said he wasn't in proper shape to go nearly full speed, even without pads. I think we're going to see a lot of players, league-wide, who won't be in proper shape come opening day, they've simply missed too many training sessions.

John Kadlec retired after 16-years as color man on Mizzou football radio broadcasts. He was a player, assistant coach & broadcaster for the Tigers. A replacement search ended yesterday when Howard Richards was hired to pair with Mike Kelly beginning this fall. Richards was an all-Big-8 offensive tackle for Mizzou & a 1st round draft pick of the Dallas Cowboys in 1981. After 6 seasons with Dallas, Richards moved on to Seattle for his final NFL season. He then went to work for the CIA on the security detail of 4 different Directors over a 13-year career. Richards moved back to his native St. Louis 3 years ago & armed with his Communications degree from Mizzou, he auditioned for & got the color job. Last part of the story? Kadlec recruited Richards back in 1976.

I said a lot of negative things about lawyers yesterday & I meant every word I wrote. On Thursday, I read a Sports Business Journal piece about NFL players' attorney Jeffrey Kessler, written by Daniel Kaplan. Kessler's the guy I told you was constantly causing problems in the closed door negotiating sessions. He has been kicked out for days at a time. The now-defunct NFLPA issued their financial statement for the fiscal year ending January 31, 2011. The statement detailed all of the union's expenses, under legal fees, the total was a staggering $8.9 million. This was before the lockout occurred. Think of what the meter has run up to now. Jeffrey Kessler's firm received payments of $2.87 million from the players union. Not too bad really, just $7,863 a day for 365-days. See why these guys are intent on dragging this out as long as possible? Here's another thing Kaplan revealed, Kessler also works for the NBA. Not the players, the league. Can you say conflict of interest? O.K. O.K. it might not qualify by the strictest definition of the law, but it looks really bad & I learned long ago if you think it might look bad to some, it absolutely does. But what does it matter, lawyers know what's best for all of us.
