I THINK WE'RE GETTING CLOSER TO AN AGREEMENT & T.O. A CHIEF, ARE YOU SERIOUS???

I saw a couple of items Tuesday that fortified my hopes that we're closer to an agreement in the NFL labor strife. Tuesday morning both sides announced they planned to meet Tuesday thru Friday in Minnesota. Federal Judge Arthur Boylan will preside of all negotiations. What was surprising early Tuesday was there were no players or owners in the room for the morning session, just 2 attorneys from each side, DeMaurice Smith & Commissioner Roger Goodell. The regular lineup of players & owners returned for the afternoon meetings. Positive sign #2 was later in the day, Smith asked the Commissioner to speak at the rookie symposium in Florida. He agreed & they immediately went to the airport & were able to arrive in time to address the rookies. If things weren't a helluva lot better than they were just 2-3 weeks ago, I don't believe Smith would have asked Goodell to speak to the players. One unfortunate part of the rookie symposium was the poor attendance, there were 102 no-shows out of 256 invitees. Hearing & retaining what is said during these lectures is so crucial, the NFL's police blotter will confirm that.

I got an anonymous email from a fictional account tonight. The writer wanted to know why I wasn't more "pausitive?" They used pausitive three time in the 4-sentence email. C'mon, are you serious? I'll be the first to admit I'm a poor speller, but "pausitive?" Really? I know you find me to be very negative.  I try to remain honest, but sometimes I fall back into being a rooter while at other times, I do come off as negative. I'll try to be more pausitive, O.K.?

Aaron Douglas, found dead this past April, died from a fatal mixture of prescription drugs. The Alabama offensive lineman died after an all-night party in Fernandino Florida. He had large doses of methadone & diazepam in his system, two drugs that are never to be taken together. One is for severe chronic pain, the other for anxiety relief, the 19-year old never had a chance after passing out alone on a balcony. What a waste, Florida authorities have no information as to where he got these drugs as neither was prescribed to him.

The San Francisco Forty Niners had 20 players show up for two days of workouts organized by quarterback Alex Smith. For the third time, according to Matt Barrows of The Sacramento Bee, wide receiver Michael Crabtree didn't participate in any of the passing drills. Barrows claims Crabtree is still sidelined from the same foot injury he suffered during the runup to the 2010 draft. You fantasy players better keep an eye any possible news regarding Crabtree & his injured wheel.

As I watched Sportscenter Tuesday morning, my favorite player agent, Drew Rosnehaus called in to correct reports regarding his client, Terrell Owens. He was his usual vague self, 4 times refusing to answer how & when Owens was injured. He also wouldn't confirm the date of his surgery for a torn ACL in his right knee. Owens tore his left meniscus last November & missed the last five games of the season. Rosenhaus, always the promoter, said Owens would be ready to play at full speed in August. He said teams could bring him in for an MRI & watch him run patterns "without any problem." What Rosenhaus & his client should be worried about is finding an NFL team willing to bring T.O. into their locker room. Ole super-agent will tell us there are multiple teams courting Owens but I think most of us understand that is pretty much a load of crap.

Not 10-minutes later, I'm reading The Kansas City Star & someone I don't recognize, wrote a piece about Terrell Owens coming to play for the Chiefs. Did anyone else read this article? It's possible Kent Babb or Adam Teicher read it & pulled it off their site. I should have copied the article, because now I can't find it anywhere on their website. It spoke of what a great opportunity the Chiefs have to sign such a great player & how he could mentor #1 draft pick Jon Baldwin. R U friggin' serious? Terrell Owens is the guy you want tutoring your number one draft pick? Really? The writer went on to say the Chiefs could get a good deal on Owens since he is damaged goods. Anyone else out there see Scott Pioli & Todd Haley making this decision? Holy smoke.
