WE GOT A DEAL, WE DON'T GOT A DEAL.....WTF! CHIEFS MAKE AN AWFUL DECISION, THE RETURN OF JENN STERGER & SOME CAP NUMBERS THAT WILL AMAZE YOU.
Oy frickin' vay! We got a deal, we don't got a deal. The vote the players were scheduled to take Wednesday never happened. Then as the evening wore on, one negative item after another began to surface. I reported here last night that Charger wide receiver Vincent Jackson had capitulated, he didn't want to hold up the CBA with his claim for $10 million, that according to Kevin Acee of the San Diego Tribune. He claimed to have spoken with Jackson's agent since the player is out of the country, vacationing in the South Pacific. There are numerous reports Jackson's agent is standing firm, he still wants the 10-mil. And New England guard Logan Mankins wants his $10 million as well. As of last night, Mankins or his mouthpiece hadn't been heard from regarding his lawsuit against the league. Mankins, his agent or both refuse to give in, at least for now. Peyton Manning & Drew Brees, getting a lot of heat from the NFLPA executive committee, went quietly into the night Tuesday & didn't resurface all day Wednesday. A low profile is the proper strategy. Seattle player rep Chester Pitts said tonight "we're probably two full weeks to resolving this deal." Optimistic huh? Here's a fact that won't change, for every week of preseason that gets cancelled, the players will lose $96 million. Figuring about 1,900 players, that's a forfeiture of $50,100 per player of salary cap for every week. Ownership would lose right at $104 million per week. If this thing doesn't get approved on Thursday, the players should get flagged for delay of game. They elected DeMaurice Smith to represent them & when he calls a meeting to vote on the best deal he could get, they damn well better approve it.

According to Kansas City television station FOX 4, the Chiefs made a financial decision & frankly it stinks. A couple of hundred stadium workers, ticket-takers & parking lot attendants, who put in about 4-hours of work every game day just lost the one benefit many of them took the job for in the first place. After the first quarter ended, about 80% of these workers clocked out & were allowed to watch the remainder of the game. One of my best friends had two sons that did this work while they were in college, not for the money, so they could see the game at no charge. But that was back in the 90's when you couldn't get a seat in Arrowhead for nearly a decade. Now the people who take these minimum wage jobs will no longer be permitted to watch the games. This is a "little" decision, it makes the Chiefs look very cheap. I wonder how many people are willing to stand out in September heat or in freezing January wind for a 4-hour, $7.50 an-hour job? Bad decision plain & simple.

To my buddy Cam, a long-suffering Detroit Lions fan, I have some bad news for you. Left tackle Jeff Backus suffered a torn pectoral muscle during the lockout & it's unknown how much of training camp he will miss. For a team with some realistic hope but virtually no depth, this could be very problematic.
A couple of predictions regarding two of the league's best known quarterbacks. One, Peyton Manning could miss most or all of the preseason after undergoing neck surgery in the off-season. He complained repeatedly during the lockout he was denied the Colts' physical therapist. He says he hasn't thrown a pass at full speed yet & doesn't figure to for at least 4 more weeks. Two, I think there's a real possibility Donovan McNabb will land in Miami. The Dolphins have no veteran depth to go with Chad Henne. Chad Pennington, rehabbing twin surgeries, will work for FOXSports instead of playing QB for the Dolphins this season. I've never been a Henne fan, McNabb could start week one.
I know you have been wondering just what happened to Jenn Sterger? The former Jets' pregame hostess(now there's a vague job) made semi-famous for being on the receiving end of Brett Favre's sexting. The weirdest part of that deal was Sterger bore a striking resemblance to Favre's wife Deanna. Well you Sterger fans don't have to worry anymore, I'm going tell you what she's been up to recently. Ms. Sterger just taped a pilot for the SPIKE television network called "Spare Time." The show essentially is Sterger interviewing various celebrities, while they bowl. Honest to God. How could you possibly not love a show combining celebs & a bursting-at-the-seams young woman chatting while they bowl? I think this proves the point "there are way too many TV networks."

Ms. Sterger
I got a few emails after I mentioned the Chiefs had slightly more than $34 million of available salary cap. People wanted to know if that figure put Kansas City at or near the top. Nope, at $34.3 million, the Chiefs rank 8th in the league. Here's how the top-10 falls as well as the bottom-5.
1. Tampa Bay $59.2 under the cap
2. Seattle 39.0
3. Arizona 37.3
4. Chicago 37.0
5. Buffalo 35.9
5bCincinnati 35.9
7. St. Louis 35.6
8. Kansas City 34.3
9. Cleveland 33.3
10.Jacksonville 31.4
Bottom Five:
28. Minnesota $ 5.1 over the cap
29. Pittsburgh 10.0
30. Oakland 10.0
31. NY Giants 11.3
32. Dallas 18.9
