THE ONLY SELECTION OF THE NFL'S SUPPLEMENTAL DRAFT? OAKLAND PICKS TERRELLE PRYOR, ANYONE SURPRISED?

It was no surprise to me & I doubt you were shocked either, when the Oakland Raiders used their 3rd round selection in the NFL's Supplemental Draft to pick Terrelle Pryor. This is an Al Davis pick if I ever saw one. He's big, really fast, extremely athletic & he's had a troubled past. What says Oakland Raider better than that? All I wondered about was how long Davis could restrain himself before pulling the trigger on Pryor? The fact that he's not a very good football player also fits the Raider mold. Oakland has selected the fastest prospect from the NFL Scouting Combine for the past three seasons. None of them have set the world on fire, but Al doesn't believe in change, keep doing what you've done for decades, maybe it will pay off again. The big difference with Pryor is he will come cheaply....for a while. Third round supplemental picks who a facing a 5-game suspension won't cost much.

Now the question is where will he play? He's at least 2-years away from being a serviceable backup so if Davis wants his new toy on the field by week 6, Pryor will have to consent to a position change. Wide receiver is the logical move, but since Pryor has never played the position at any level of football, he has a lot to learn. Maybe 6-8 snaps a game is all they'll get out of him this season & he'll have to be in multiple receiver packages like third & long.

Pryor is superior athletically, but that doesn't translate well at this level. We'll see how long it will take for Pryor to be a legitimate NFL player....at any position.

In another Raider note, the club, along with the San Francisco Forty-Niners have decided to end their Bay Area shootout(literally) in the preseason. Every team has tens of thousands of empty seats for preseason games. It's too easy to get a $100 seat for $20 on eBay or StubHub, making it easy for rowdies from the visiting team to make their unruly presence felt in your stadium. After the beating of one man & two post-game shootings in the parking lot, this is probably a sound decision. They don't have problems when the Niners play San Diego or the Raiders host the Seahawks, it just when they play each other.
