CJ GETS A NEW DEAL, PREZ GOES BEFORE FOOTBALL NEXT WEEK & A FEW THOUGHTS ON TONIGHT'S GAMES

Disgruntled Titan's running back Chris Johnson became "gruntled" earlier today when he agreed to a 4-year extension that gave him a 6-year commitment worth $53.5 million with $30 million guaranteed. He will report immediately in hopes of being ready to play next Sunday in their opener against Jacksonville. The contract gets Johnson to the top of the heap amongst running back, but not all players, which had been his goal.

All the manufactured outrage & distress over the President's jobs speech & when it would take place has grown tedious. Here's the bottom line, the President will give his speech before a joint session of congress at 7:30PM ET on Thursday evening, a full hour before the Saints-Packers kicks off to open the 2011 NFL season. Now all the pundits can get on to something important, like reporting real news stories. Yeah, like that's gonna happen.

The Rams placed Mark Clayton right onto the PUP list after he signed last night. It's probable he will remain there until after week 6, when St. Louis will have to activate him, release him or place him on injured reserve for the season.

I'd really like to see some sort of continuity in the Chiefs passing game. It's been non-existent so far. The timing between a quarterback & his receivers is not a switch that can be flipped on five minutes before kickoff opening day.

I'd really like to see Kansas City's offensive tackles play effectively without holding. I don't want Packer pass rushers hanging off Matt Cassel.

I'd really like to see the Chiefs defensive line hold their ground, maintain gap responsibility & free up the linebackers to stuff runners in the hole before they get downfield momentum.

I'd really like to see a few guys who are on the bubble play like their hair is on fire. Brandon Bair, Sabby Picatelli, Jeremy Horne, Quinten Lawrence, David Mims & Butch Lewis all have outside chances to make this team. Bair, Mims & Lewis should be retained for the practice squad IMO, they have a lot of potential, but are not NFL-ready at this point.

I'd really like to see Blaine Gabbert have a solid outing for Jacksonville. It might be his last chance to play for an extended period of time, barring injury to starter David Garrard, until such time the Jags throw in the towel later in the fall.

Newly acquired quarterback Kerry Collins will play a lot tonight in an effort to get the veteran ready for opening day in case Peyton Manning can't go.

I'll give you my best guess at the Chiefs 53-man roster tonight after the game.

GOOD POST THOUGHT YOU MIGHT FIND A WAY TO USE THIS BIT OF TRIVIA; Houston, TX – August 31, 2011 - Family Tree DNA, the pioneer and largest DNA testing company for genealogy purposes, through its Family Finder test, provided the conclusive proof that two National Football League players are half-siblings.

Until a few months ago, Xavier Omon, from the San Francisco 49ers and Ogemdi Nwagbuo from the San Diego Chargers did not have a clue that they were related. Early August, at the request of ESPN, Family Tree DNA performed the Family Finder test on both, and the result was unequivocal: definitely half-siblings. More of the story can be found at the ESPN website, under the “Brother’s Tale” story.
