BREAKING NEWS: MANNING & CASSEL MAY MISS OPENING DAY

This came across just minutes ago, John Michael Vincent of ESPN 1070 Sports in Indianapolis is reporting multiple sources within the Colt organization have told him quarterback Peyton Manning "needs another procedure on his neck & is out indefinitely." This breaking news courtesy of Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk & NBC Sports.

Adam Teicher, Chiefs beat writer for the Kansas City Star & 610 Sports' Nick Wright have both confirmed starting quarterback Matt Cassel has a broken rib & may not play in the team's opener a week from today versus Buffalo. Backup Tyler Palko was told by coach Todd Haley "you better be ready to play Sunday."

Colts fans may have had an inkling of this weeks ago but the Kansas City faithful hadn't heard anything negative since Cassel was buried by 340-pound Packer defensive tackle Howard Green. Along with tight end Tony Moeaki going on I.R. yesterday, hopes for a repeat of last season have been dimmed significantly.

This is looking like a real shitty year. Just when you think we're going in the right direction, the wheels begin to fall off. Like your blog, hate the news you give us.

    Rich,
It all started to crumble at the draft this year. Pioli and Haley went against their own preferred player profile, taking Jonathan Baldwin and ignoring the blue-chip o-linemen. Then they go ahead and let Brian Waters go anyway. There have been several more very questionable player decisions made by the GM and the coach.
Sorry, but at this point I am truly questioning the talent evaluating ability and management sylte of Pioli and Haley. Haley is in the crosshairs after that foolish decision to keep his starting players in that last pre-season game, exposing them (some successfully) to injury.
Sad to say, but this year's team just has that bad vibe hanging around that just won't go away.

I agree John, I've been skeptical about many of their personnel decisions, Tyson Jackson, Alex MaGee, Moeaki, Baldwin etc. I'm doing my AFC preview Wednesday & Chiefs fans won't be happy.

With the uncertainty surrounding the Chiefs qb situation, any chance they could go after Carson palmer?

      Two problems with that idea.
      1. Bengals owner Mike Brown won't trade Palmer, not going to happen.
      2. The Chiefs would have to take on Palmer's contract which calls for $11 mil this year with 3 years remaining. They already have Cassel on the books for about $10 mil. Way too expensive for a backup QB even with plenty of cap space.

Relax will you, he's going to play, so don't let your panties get in a bunch.

Props for mentioning the Hawks big win.
