EAGLES CONTINUE SHUFFLING O-LINE, DEZ BROKE, MORE INJURY REPORTS & BIG-12 SCHOOLS BATTLE A&M'S MOVE
Just days before the season begins, the Philadelphia Eagles continue to tinker with their starting offensive linemen. On Wednesday, they decided to bench rookie right guard Danny Watkins. He will be replaced in the starting lineup by Kyle DeVan. The 2-year vet from Oregon State was just plucked from the waiver wire Sunday. This marks the 4th change in the Eagles front line since training camp opened. Only left tackle Jason Peters remains in place. This is quite a risk, especially this close to opening day. I picked the Eagles to beat the Rams, but it was one of the more difficult choices.
The President's speech tonight will preempt the league's big TV kickoff special on NBC. Sooo, the NBC & NFL brass, not wanting their fans to miss the really big show, will broadcast it all over the place. If you're so inclined, you can watch the mini-concerts & everything else on VERSUS, Syfy, USA, G4 & the NFL Network. The president has promised to end his speech by 6:45PM CDT, giving NBC a little pregame time.
Clarence Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star Telegram said in a published report Wednesday Dallas wide receiver Dez Bryant is basically broke. I've told you this year about three lawsuits filed against the 2nd year receiver. They totaled over $800,000. Bryant charged custom made jewelry, concert & sporting event tickets & so forth. According to Clarence's piece, Bryant is out of money & still owes plenty against his 2011 salary of $1.1 million. With signing bonuses & salary, Bryant made $2.84 million last year. It's all gone & Bryant is talking about a contract extension already so he can pay his bills. Unfortunately, a rookie contract, under the old CBA, must be enforced as written for the first two years. In other words, no new deal until after this season. There's always the value menu Dez.

The Arizona Wildcats will be without their home run threat tonight when they visit Oklahoma State. Juron Criner has an illness that will prevent him from playing, in fact, the word is he didn't even make the trip to Stillwater.
In tonight's other game, the NFL season kickoff, the Saints will be without WR Lance Moore, their 2nd leading receiver in 2010. A groin injury has sidelined Moore. New Orleans signed 41-year old placekicker John Kasay to sub for Garrett Hartley, who has a hip injury. The Packers will be without 2 linebackers, starter Frank Zombo & backup Vic So'oto.
In other injury news, Texans' running back, Arian Foster, the league-leader in 2010, is quetionable for Sunday's game with the Colts. His sore hamstring has prohibited him from practicing for over a week. Both Dallas starting corners, Terrence Newman & Mike Jenkins are ailing & their status for Sunday night's game with the Jets is also questionable. Cowboy rookie & starting right tackle will be lost for 2-4 weeks with a hyper-extended knee. He'll be replaced by 2nd year man Jermey Parnell.
The NFL is throwing you a bone this weekend by giving everyone with cable or Directv the Redzone channel for free. All Directv subscribers will also receive NFL Sunday Ticket for free this weekend too. Yeah, they're trying to sell you a subscription, but free is free, even if it's only for a weekend. Enjoy it!
The Southeastern Conference voted unanimously to accept Texas A&M as a new member. There was one caveat, A&M will be welcomed only if they were unencumbered by lawsuits or any other legal wrangling. Immediately, Baylor said they would sue to keep the BIG-12 intact & by last night, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State & Texas Tech said they would join Baylor's move to block A&M's exit. The constant turmoil that is the BIG-12 is ridiculous, Commissioner Dan Beebe has no control over anything, it's a joke. The pact all ten members agreed to just two months ago apparently wasn't worth anything.
