CHIEFS CONTINUE TO CONFUSE ME, NFL INJURY NOTES, THE PATHETIC STORY OF CHRIS MCALISTER & KEEP YOUR FEET OFF THE TABLE

I have no idea what to make of the Chiefs' personnel moves yesterday. Late Friday, they announce the signing of tight end Kyle Nelson. On Saturday they have a walk-thru, play the Bills on Sunday, watch film & do conditioning on Monday, get a day off on Tuesday & cut Nelson on Wednesday. He never even practiced! That's not the only bizarre move, Sunday morning they resigned Lucas Patterson & to make room on the practice squad, they cut fullback Shane Bannon. On Wednesday, Kansas City resigned offensive lineman Butch Lewis & to make room for him, they cut Lucas Patterson. Confused? I am, what the hell kinda way is this to run a team? In an expected move, safety Eric berry was placed on I.R. & was replaced on the active roster by Reshard Langford, who had been in camp & was resigned. Chiefs fans better be ready for some really ugly safety play, the drop-off from Berry to Jon McGraw, Sabby Piscatelli & Langford is dramatic. By the way, it's been a month since the Jonathan Baldwin & Thomas Jones got into a locker room scuffle that resulted in Baldwin suffering a broken thumb. He continues to run at practice but he can't catch the ball. This team leaves me scratching my head. Detroit -9 is the current line for Sunday's game.

The Denver Broncos could be without 8 starters on Sunday when they host the Bengals. With WR Damaryius Thomas, DE Marcus Thomas, MLB D.J.Williams & Ty Warren already sidelined, it could get worse. CB Champ Bailey, WR Brandon Lloyd, RB Knowshon Moreno & DE Elvis Dumervil could join their teammates on the sideline. All were listed as questionable on today's injury report.

Texans' RB Arian Foster returned to practice on Wednesday & took full reps with the first team. Coach Gary Kubiak still says Foster is day-to-day. Baltimore WR Lee Evans, who failed to catch a pass in the rout over the Steelers, is back in a walking boot. His status is unknown for Sunday. Packers defensive end Mike Neal, who missed all but two games last season, could miss all of this year with a knee injury. Big loss for a team that lost Cullen Jenkins in free agency. Cincy rookie QB Andy Dalton was listed as probable in the injury report & coach Marvin Lewis said today Dalton would start Sunday in Denver.

Chicago Bears middle linebacker Brian Urlacher returned to practice this afternoon. He was in Texas after the sudden death of his mother. She was just 51-years old.

Former Ohio State & Indianapolis Colts quarterback Art Schlichter will plead guilty to felony fraud charges after bilking football fans out of over $1 million. His "preferred ticket" scheme was exposed not long after it was put into motion but not in time to save several investors. Naturally Schlichter had used the money to pay off gambling debts & run up new ones. I dealt with Schlichter while he had a radio show in Las Vegas. He was the worst degenerate gambler I ever encountered in 20-years of working in casino dice pits. He's looking at 12-18 years, they better make him serve every day of his sentence, because he'll do it again if he's allowed back on the street.

I like the Bills to go 2-0 this Sunday. They play the Raiders who will be coming off a road Monday Night game followed by a cross-country trip to play at 1PM ET, a very bad combination in the past.

Former Baltimore Ravens all-pro cornerback Chris McAlister has fallen on hard times, but ladies & gentlemen, it's really hard to fell any compassion for him. Drafted in 1999 with the 11th overall pick of the 1st round, he won a Super Bowl ring with the Ravens in '01 & made 3 Pro Bowls. He signed 7-year deal for $55 million in 2004. He was released before the 2009 season but received just over $28 million from that contract. The website TMZ reported that McAlister, in a child support battle, told the judge "I've been unemployed since 2009, I have no income. I live in my parents home. My parents provide me with my basic living expenses as I do not have the funds to do so." McAlister is fighting the $11,000 per month child support owed to his former wife Marlene. They were married for 13-months, but McAlister threw her out of his house when she became pregnant & refused to have an abortion. Sounds as tho Mr. McAlister made some bad decisions in his life, the worst one was pissing away over $30 million in less than 12-years. His father played in the NFL for a few years back in the 70's, apparently he saved his money, at least enough to feed & shelter his deadbeat son.

We have the makings of a good game tonight as #3 LSU plays #25 Mississippi State in Starkville.

Two years ago the Rutgers faithful were so excited when running back De'Antwan Williams signed with the Scarlet Knights. he was the first 5-star recruit from New Jersey to stay in-state with Rutgers. After being ineffective in two games this season, 20 carries for just 59-yards, he slipped on the depth chart. So instead of staying & competing for the starting job, Williams decided to "run away." He left the program. Coach Greg Schiano said "we had some depth chart changes & De'Antwan didn't agree with them. He's welcome to return at some point if he choose to." You can come to your own conclusion on this story.

I read Sports Illustrated's Stewart Mandel every week, he is one of the very best national writers on college football. In this weeks column he mentioned two things I'd like to repeat. Talking about the upcoming Ohio State - Miami game this Saturday, he referred to it as the "Ineligible Bowl." I like that, has a nice ring to it. After all the suspensions both schools have have experienced, keeping track of who is eligible will be a challenge. Mandel was asked about Toledo's chances against visiting Boise State(ESPN tomorrow night). Mandel said "don't compare Ohio State to Boise, Boise is a much better team than Boise." Mandel is not the Boise defender I am, so I was shocked to see that comment in print. He's right of course. Toledo is a dangerous team tho, narrowly losing at Ohio State last Saturday, 27-22.

So why did a 4-star recruit from South Florida, thought to be committed to the Florida Gators, end up signing with Tennessee? An intrepid reporter for the Palm Beach Post, Jason Lieser, interviewed Curt Maggitt's father in hopes of getting to the truth. Roosevelt Maggitt helped his son make the choice to go to Knoxville instead of Gainesville. Two reasons for the decision according to Maggitt. One was the extensive arrest record run up by members of the Gator football program. Dad didn't like that. The other?

"I didn't get good vibes from him, he kind of disrespected my house. Anytime a man puts his shoes on your table, that ain't no good. That didn't show respect for my home."

Defensive coordinator Dan Quinn put his feet on the Maggitt coffee table & that was that. Honestly, being an old fashion guy, I have no problem with Roosevelt's reaction. Provided his son will receive the same opportunities at Tennessee, I liked dad's guidance.
