MORE SHAME FOR BUCKEYES, COLTS' LINES R A MESS, BOISE ROMPS & TODAY'S BEST GAMES
Just days after Ohio State's top wide receiver, DeVier Posey, was nailed for violating NCAA rules for the 2nd & 3rd time in less than a year, the NCAA has lowered the boom in a large way. They ordered Posey suspended for an additional 5 games for accepting pay for hours he didn't work, approximately $720 worth. He will have to pay back that money as well as $100 for green fees at a local golf course. He received both improper benefits from the same guy, former Buckeye booster Bobby DiGeronimo(sounds like a wrestler doesn't it?). DiGeronimo is easily recognizable now with all the red rings on his body, which he got from being poked by the proverbial 10-foot pole. Instead of dismissing Posey, athletic director Gene Smith said "I am extremely disappointed with the NCAA's decision regarding DeVier Posey. The 5 game suspension he has already served should have been enough." Really????????? He gets suspended for 5 games for his part in "Tattoo-Gate." While on suspension, he takes money for hours he never worked & accepts cash for 2 rounds of golf. By the way, that cash was delivered by Terrelle Pryor. How does Gene Smith still have a job? His football program is a jailbreak monitored by a sham of a compliance office. Bottom line is this is Gene Smith's responsibility.
I got some static from two ladies who were disappointed with my office pool picks. I have a couple of suggestions for them. One, do it yourself & see how you do. Two, go to ESPN.com & use the picks of NFL insider Chris Mortensen or Pro Football Hall of Famer Mike Ditka, Ron Jaworski or Eric Allen. I have a better season record than all four of them. I'm just sayin'.
I said after the Monday Night game, the Colts looked angry, this is a team with a lot of pride, a lot of Super Bowl winners, guys used to winning 12,13 games a season. I think they'll be a handfull on Sunday, know this, the Chiefs have never won in Indianapolis since the Colts moved there from Baltimore. Never. But the Colts will be severely undermanned on both lines because of injuries. Left tackle Anthony Castonzo is very, very doubtful. Right guard Ryan Diem hasn't played in 3 weeks because of a high ankle sprain & he didn't practice until Friday. They intend to moce right tackle Jeff Linkenbach over to the left side & with Ben Ijalana now out for the season, they don't have a right tackle. Indy signed free agents Michael Toudouzer & Quinn Ojinnaka off the street on Wednesday, one of them could be a starter this Sunday. On the defensive line, they lost DT Eric Foster Monday night for the season with a dislocated ankle. Drake Nevis is questionable with a back issue, he hasn't played in two weeks & Fili Moala practiced for the first time on Friday after sitting out for a week with an ankle sprain. The Colts are 28th in the league vs. the run. They didn't give QB Curtis Painter much time to throw last Monday. This is where this game will be decided, if Kansas City can beat these subs, they'll win, if they can't dominate them, they'll lose. By the by, is it me or does Painter look like the late Kurt Cobain?
Boise State rolled into Fresno Friday night & rolled the Bulldogs 57-7. With the score 43-0, halfway thru the 3rd quarter, Bronco coach Chris Peterson took his foot off the gas, removing nearly all his starters. Quarterback Kellen Moore had another sensational night completing 23 of 31 for 254-yards & 3 touchdowns. It must be noted two other TD passes were dropped in the endzone. The lone weakness of this Boise team is placekicker Dan Goodale, he's missed PAT's as well as very makeable field goals. Tonight it was one PAT blocked & another missed entirely. In a close game, I doubt Peterson has much confidence in his kicker. But what a quarterback.
In today's best matchups, we begin the day with the Red River Rivalry(it will always be the Red River Shootout to me, but that wasn't politically correct, I'm not kidding, that's why they changed the name).
11AM---Oklahoma vs Texas at the Cotton Bowl---ABC
Classic college football rivalry over 100-years old. Both undefeated, both ranked(OU #3 UT #11) & the inside track on a Big-12 title. I like the Sooners here, 38-20.
2:30---Missouri at Kansas State---ABC
Unbeaten K-State, ranked 20th, hosts a very hungry Tiger team. Bill Snyder is a master at dictating his opponent's time of possession. The Tiger have proven to be a quick strike team & they play the run better than the pass, K-State's weakness. I like Mizzou just slightly, 27-24.
Florida at LSU--CBS
The Gators will be without QB John Brantley, not that I believed they had a chance with Brantley. Tigers 27-10.
6:00PM---Texas A&M at Texas Tech---FX
The "Gaggies" have choked the past two weeks surrendering double-digit halftime leads. Tech has quietly compiled a 5-0 record. I think A&M should pull out of their spin with a victory at Lubbock, they're the better team. But unfortunately, it doesn't work like that all the time & the Aggies must have serious doubts, Tech remains undefeated 41-38.
Auburn at Arkansas---ESPN
Two very different teams, Arkansas can score a lot of points in a hurry. Auburn struggles to score most of the time. I like the Razorbacks, 27-20.
6:30PM---Colorado at Stanford---Versus
This will not be a close game, but if you want a chance to see the best college quarterback I've seen in many years, Andrew Luck, here's your opportunity. Stanford 45-13.
7:00PM---Ohio State at Nebraska---ABC
The no-offense Buckeyes versus the no-defense Huskers. I like the home team big, 31-10.
A pair of late-nite matchups feature TCU at San Diego State(CBS Sports HD) & San Jose State at BYU(ESPNU).
