REX RYAN'S ACT IS GROWING OLD, REALLY OLD, RONNIE BROWN TRADE VOIDED-WAIT TILL YOU SEE WHY & LSU SUSPENDS THREE

All right, everybody who thinks Rex Ryan's act has grown old raise your hands. Wow, that's even more than I thought I'd see, actually too many to count. Ryan's abrasive manner & his larger-than-life ego has already alienated many around the NFL. Count San Diego coach Norv Turner in that group. The normally low-keyed coach lashed out at Ryan after receiving a call from Ryan & later finding out what it was Ryan has called about. Ryan, who also interviewed for the Charger job back in 2007, cracked "if I'd gotten the Charger job, I'd have a couple of Super Bowl rings by now." He called Turner after making this statement to say how much he was looking forward to hosting Turner's Chargers this Sunday & told Turner how much he respected him. When told of the quote late yesterday, Turner responded with "I think we've had enough coaching drama(Harbaugh & Schwartz) in the last few days & we don't need anymore." But the more Turner stewed on Ryan''s comments, the more it apparently bothered him. Near the end of his short press conference, Turner said "I hadn't heard his(Ryan) quote & I was a little surprised by the call. I didn't have a chance to ask him if those rings he referred to were the rings he'd promised Jet fans the past two seasons." Touche.  I was already looking forward to this matchup early Sunday, it just got better.

Baltimore wide receiver Lee Evans is back in a walking boot. His ankle issues haven't improved & it's unknown today if he'll play Sunday against Jacksonville. Atlanta wide receiver Julio Jones hasn't practiced all week & may not play for the 2nd week in a row.

The Ronnie Brown for Jerome Harrison trade was voided late yesterday because Harrison failed his physical with the Eagles. Considering Harrison hadn't been listed on the Lions' injury report even once this season, it was a surprise. The reason was made public today. Harrison has a brain tumor that will require him to miss the remainder of the season so that he may receive proper treatment. If he wasn't traded, he wouldn't have known until the physical all NFL players are required to take after their season ends. He's so lucky to have been traded, otherwise his condition wouldn't have been diagnosed for at least another 10-weeks. Good luck Jerome.

Harrison's condition coupled with the voided trade leaves the Lions with little depth running back. Mikel LeShoure, their 2nd round draft pick, ruptured his Achilles tendon in camp & now starter Jahvid Best is having concussion issues. I've told you before he received the worst concussion I ever saw in his last season at Cal. He's had at least one concussion per season since & this year he's already on number two. Without Best, LeShoure, Harrison or Brown, the drop off at RB is substantial, very substantial.

IMO the Chicago Bears are flirting with disaster not getting a new deal done for RB Matt Forte. It appears they're far apart & the clock is ticking, Forte won't wait forever. How important is Forte to the Bears? He leads all Chicago runners with 527-yards, Marion Barber is 2nd with 52. Forte also leads all Chicago receivers with 36-receptions good for 381-yards. Devin Hester is next at 17-receptions & 262-yards. Don't let him slip into free agency, then the only way Chicago keeps him on the roster is the franchise tag, which will cost them over $10 million next season.

So who will the Chiefs face this Sunday in Oakland? Will it be backup Kyle Boller or newly acquired Carson Palmer? The Raiders have hinted it could very well be Palmer, but I have my doubts. Watching him in the press conference, Palmer looks thin, almost skinny. I'd say he's 15-20 pounds under his playing weight. This makes taking hits tougher to absorb. He hasn't taken a hit since last January & will have only 3 Raider practices before Sunday, that's a lot to ask of anybody, even a signal-caller as experienced as Palmer. The Raider bye is next week, it makes more sense to hold him out until week nine after the bye week. It's a home game against Denver, a good tuneup & then it's a showdown on Thursday night in San Diego. If Palmer was playing the Vegas line would be much higher than 4 1/2 points believe me. None of this means anything if Hue Jackson is intent on playing Palmer right away, but I'll be surprised to see him start.

The yearly game in London is upon us & the only team in the league that volunteers annually to play in this contest, Tampa Bay, has a new strategy for dealing with jet lag. Teams usually leave early Friday morning for the Sunday night contest. But this year, the Bucs left Tampa on Tuesday morning, trying to defeat the considerable jet lag that comes with a trip like this. The Bears will depart on Friday.

The #1 ranked LSU Tigers could be facing a real problem. It appears three Tiger players have been suspended for at least this week's game with Auburn. All-World cornerbacks Tyrann Mathieu & Tharold Simon plus running back Spencer Ware are reported to have failed drug tests for marijuana. With the SEC game of the year just two weeks away, losing these guys for long could be crucial if they are to beat #2 Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Once again selfishness rules, to hell with the team, it's all about me.
