MIZZOU ON THE BRINK, RAIDERS' WEEK UPDATE, HAWKS FINGER COSTS $10K & #1 RANKED QB ON THE MARKET AGAIN

I'm in a pissy mood as it appears the Missouri Tigers will leave the Big-12 in favor of stability & more money membership in the SEC brings. All the tradition of being a member of this conference for 1-4 years is clearly unimportant to those running the show in Columbia. Money, money, money, that's what's important. I'm unhappy that there are political polls every single day of the week but can we get a poll that tests the fan support for this move? Hell no. I would say without much worry of being wrong, fully 75% of Mizzou alums & fans would be against the proposed move to the SEC. It's nothing against the Southeastern Conference, they're without a doubt the best football conference in the land. But is this move good for the Tigers? I don't believe it is & without a doubt the majority of Mizzou fans are with me on this question. I guarantee Gary Pinkel isn't hot about this deal & he's the one who'll have to deal with the change, not school president Brady Deaton, not the board of curators, none of the academics have to deal with this move. But since they're all academics, they know which conference is best for the Tigers even tho I sincerely doubt most of them couldn't name the 12-teams currently in the SEC if you put a gun to their head.

Sadly, it appears this decision has been made, no poll necessary, they know what's best, the donors, boosters & fans who actually buy the tickets or travel to away games should have no say in this decision. I say again, they know what's best for everyone because they're so much smarter than everyone else. Plus they don't regularly attend football games because they're not fans, but they know what's best for those fans.

If you can't detect my sarcasm, you're not paying attention or don't know me well enough to know I believe not everything in this world can be fixed by professors or university administrators. Brilliant minds, but often clueless about the real world, you know the world outside of university campuses, the real freakin' world? On Friday, Mizzou began throwing out ideas intended to soften the blow, especially in the Kansas City area. They'd like to have a basketball tournament at the Sprint Center in K.C. around the Christmas holiday. They also made it clear the "Border War" game at Arrowhead between the Tigers & the Kansas Jayhawks, should continue. Wanna hear what KU A.D. Sheahon Zenger had to say about the annual game played at Arrowhead Stadium?

"Kansas-Missouri is a great rivalry, the University of Kansas is a great Midwestern school, loyal to our Midwestern conference & our Midwestern roots. The Kansas-Missouri rivalry belongs in the Big-12 Conference. Should Missouri decide to leave the Big-12 Conference, we would wish them well."

Does that sound promising? Obviously it doesn't & Mizzou fans are facing the end of an era, an era that's survived 108-years. MU-KU was a rivalry game before they were even in the same conference. But because the people involved in this decision know nothing of tradition, rivalry or the importance of recruiting, off to the SEC the Tigers will go. It's the money that's important.

It's Raider Week, as former Chiefs coach Marty Schottenheimer first called it. A lot of resentment is still alive in this rivalry that goes back nearly 50-years & it will be on display this Sunday at 3:05PM CDT. Some updates:

PK Sebastian Janikowski suffered a hamstring injury in practice on Thursday & he didn't practice on Friday. Sea Bass has connected on 12 of 13 field goal attempts, 5 over 50-yards.

DT Richard Seymour didn't practice all week because of a sore knee but I look for him to play.

QB Carson Palmer will not start & unless Kyle Boller really stinks up the place, he won't enter the game.

WR Jonathan Baldwin will be game day decision on whether he will make his regular season debut. I think he will get in for 8-10 plays.

RB Jackie Battle will be Kansas City's starter with Thomas Jones as the backup.

The Raiders have sold out their 3rd consecutive game, so the local TV blackout has been lifted. That also means the part-Halloween-part-freak-show that is Raider Nation, will be in full throat Sunday.

Six-time Pro Bowl center Olin Kreutz has walked away from the game. The 13-year veteran said thru his agent he "no longer feels passion & doesn't want to just collect a paycheck." Kreutz lost a lot of his fire when the Bears, who he had played for the past 12-years, very unceremoniously dumped him during training camp. The Saints swooped into to sign him but his tenure in New Orleans lasted just 6 weeks.

Packer linebacker A.J. Hawk gave his teammates the bird during last Sunday's game with St. Louis. He said it was an inside joke altho all-pro CB Charles Woodsen said he had no idea what the "joke" was all about. The league office wasn't laughing either & they told Hawk to pony up $10,000.

Terrell Owens is ready to play & to show off his newly rehabbed knee, he will have a public workout at Calabasas High School on Tuesday. I won't hold my breath waiting for more than 2 or 3 GM's or coaches to show.

What amounts to Tim Tebow appreciation day will beheld in Sun Life Stadium when his Denver Broncos meet the Miami Dolphins. The day will commemorate the 2008 National Championship team led by Tebow. In fact, after Tebow was named starting QB for the Broncos, Miami sold an additional 20,000 tickets. There could be as many people cheering for Denver as Miami come Sunday.

Jerome Harrison, the running back for the Detroit Lions who was discovered to have a brain tumor, underwent surgery on Friday. His prognosis was very favorable for a full recovery. Had he not been traded, Harrison wouldn't have had his ailment diagnosed before it was too late. The Lions signed former Eagle Eldra Buckley to provide RB depth.

Seahawks backup QB Charlie Whitehurst will make his first start this season for Seattle. Tavaris Jackson is recouping from a torn pectoral, giving Whitehurst his shot. He'll be without center Max Unger & TE Zach Miller.

Indiana prep star QB, Gunner Kiel, has decided to stand down from his verbal commitment to the University of Indiana. He wants to reopen his recruiting, in fact Kiel will attend the USC-Notre Dame game this evening. Kiel is ranked as the number one professional-style quarterback in the nation by Rivals.com.

Here's some of the games I'l be most interested in today:
Oklahoma State at Mizzou  11AM on FX
Kansas State at Kansas 11:30AM on a number of the FOXSports regional networks
Auburn at LSU 2:30PM on CBS
Tennessee at Alabama 6:15PM on ESPN2
USC at Notre Dame 6:30Pm on NBC
Texas Tech at Oklahoma 7:00 on ABC
Wisconsin at Michigan State 7:00PM on ESPN
