OKAY CHIEFS' FANS, WE GOT WHAT WE WANTED, A GAME THAT COULD ACTUALLY MEAN SOMETHING
The last Monday night game I attended was the blowout of Buffalo in 1991. That was the loudest stadium experience I can ever remember. I recall Bills QB Jim Kelly trying the no-huddle offense, calling the plays at the line of scrimmage. That lasted about one series, not one of his offensive linemen could hear him & with Neil Smith & Derrick Thomas coming off the edges, his offensive tackles never had a chance. This was a solid Buffalo team, they went to four consecutive Super Bowls & the Chiefs ran them out of the building 33-6.

Unfortunately, with my new radio gig, we won't be able to trek up to Kansas City for what I believe will be a special night for Chiefs' fans. Even with a lousy ending to last season, the lockout, a bizarre training camp, poor preseason performances & being crushed in weeks one & two, we have a game tonight that actually means something. With a win, the Chiefs would be in a three-way tie for first with San Diego & Oakland. With Miami & Denver next up on the schedule, Le'Ron McClain's Twitter prediction of 6 consecutive wins could be a reality. Who knew?
But before we start marking win totals, tonight's game is a must win. No matter what it takes, it's a must win. Whether it's 5 field goals(Minnesota), circus catches(Indy) or a bunch of interceptions(Oakland), it's a must win. If we want to be watching meaningful games the next two months, tonight's game is a must win. Otherwise we're just playing to determine our draft order, nothing more. It isn't going to take 11-12 wins to conquer the AFC West, with a win tonight Kansas City could be looking at 9-10 wins & a down-the-road tie-breaker with the Chargers. Having already whipped the Raiders in Oakland, with a win tonight, it's very conceivable the Chiefs could finish 5-1 within the AFC West. That's why tonight's game is a must win.
The Chargers come in banged up, two starters won't play & a couple of more will be game time decisions. San Diego QB Phillip Rivers hasn't been the Phillip Rivers of old. He's already thrown 7 interceptions, hopefully that number will increase to double digits after tonight. The Chiefs need another serious pass rusher to compliment Tamba Hali. Will it be Justin Houston, Wallace Gilberry or maybe Javier Arenas, the nickel back, coming on cornerback blitz's?
Another thing the Chiefs need is a crowd with energy like that '91 Buffalo game had. If you're going to the game I have two words for you:
GET LOUD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So Chuck, Lynda, Gary, Rhonda, Casey, Korey, Justin, Lauren, Danny, Cathie, Kim, KCKrissy, DTS, Beth, Tim, Jared, Ashley, Tony the Tiger & the rest of you who claim to be rabid Chiefs' fans, here's your chance to help make a difference. Every time the Chargers break the huddle, let 'em know you're there.
I wish we were going, the tailgating, the barbeque, the energy, stuff you can only experience at Arrowhead that effectively doubles for a night game. Plus the weather will be spectacular. People can go earlier, start drinking earlier than a noon start on Sunday(not that I've ever drank before a Chiefs' game).

Sorry Krissy, I'll look into to it. I wondered why no one had commented for about 2 weeks. I thought everyone was completely on board with everything I had to say. Come to think of it, had that been the case people should have been showering me with praise.
Make 'em win!
Don't forget you can go back to calling my an idiot the old fashioned way, by email rich@richsfootballreport.com
