RAVENS-STEELERS RIVALRY GETS WEIRD, BOISE MAY BE ON THE MOVE AGAIN & MOCKING TEBOW

The rivalry between the Baltimore Ravens & Pittsburgh Steelers is white hot, probably the best rivalry going right now. I've loved watching these two knock heads for years & I'm looking forward to their game Sunday night. But does it get your piss hot? Seriously, does it get your piss hot? I can honestly say I can't answer that question, I don't even understand it. But playing the Steelers certainly gets Raven OLB Terrell Suggs revved up to a new level. On a Baltimore radio show Wednesday morning, Suggs said "Ravens-Steelers gets everybody's piss hot." Really, that's what he said, I swear. Later in the interview, Suggs was asked about whether he thought Steeler WR Hines Ward would play Sunday & his response was "Eighty-six has gotta play, for me, that's when my piss will definitely be hot." I think if I'm Hines Ward, I'd stay away from Suggs Sunday night, no need to get his piss any hotter than it is already. If it gets really hot, then what? Folks, you just can't make this stuff up you know?

Terrell Owens has filed suit against two of his lawyers, Greenberg Traurig & Pamela Linden. Owens is looking for something in the $2 million range. Seems these two barristers advised Owens to invest $2 million in electronic bingo machines for some Alabama casino applications. Unfortunately, the machines were not pre-approved for licensing in Alabama & the money kinda went down the drain. Several other NFL players invested in these machines & any current players could be fined for becoming involved in a form of gambling, a no-no for league members. Since Owens isn't currently on an NFL roster, he is exempt & felt the time was now to try to extract some of his money out of his former financial advisers. I'm not a fan of T.O.'s but I think he has a beef in this case, he trusted attorney's who made their reputation with smart financial moves for their clients. How they advised those clients to invest millions in a device that wasn't approved as well as asking NFL players to get involved financially with gambling equipment shows a certain negligence IMO. But what the hell do I know, I'm not an attorney.......thank God.

In an injury move you better pay attention to, the Atlanta Falcons will be without offensive left tackle Sam Baker for at least 3-4 weeks because of a bad back. Standing in for Baker will be ex-Chief Will Svitek. The drop off is huge, especially for Matt Ryan's blindside. TE Tony Gonzalez hasn't practiced this week, I'll keep an eye on that.

Aldon Smith, San Francisco's first round draft pick, has been named the NFL Rookie of the Month for October. The former Mizzou Tiger is making some noise, even tho he's playing just in passing situations. He had 6.5 sacks, forced a fumble, recorded a safety & batted down a pass. As his body matures, he becomes stronger & gets some good coaching, this kid will become a monster. I think he'll be as good as anyone in the league rushing the passer & the best news is he just turned 22 in September.

Boise State joined the Mountain West Conference this season but it may be their last. An invitation to join the Big East has come & the Idaho legislature has already approved the move if the school chooses to play football only in the Big East. All other sports would stay in the MWC. The Big East has already lost Pitt, Syracuse & West Virginia & to keep their TV deal & automatic BCS bid, they need to restock their league & Boise was one of their first choices. The travel will be brutal for all league members, but Boise does have a national following few other candidates can bring to the Big East. The major news here is Boise could be moving to a BCS conference. If in fact they do make the move, maybe then people will stop hammering them for "not playing anybody." I've thought for years the Big East should've lost their automatic BCS bid, the level of play within this conference was pretty pathetic, but of course they had a lot of eastern press who propped them up, refuting any negative talk. With the three teams leaving & if Boise comes in, look for the very same eastern press to start snipping at the quality of play in the very same conference.

The Chiefs brought in former Brown & Patriot, cornerback Leigh Bodden, for a look-see. He was a favorite of Kansas City defensive coordinator Romeo Crennell when he was Cleveland's head coach. With backup safety Jon McGraw nursing a shoulder injury, might he be tested at a new position? He was just released by the Patriots on Monday. The 30-year old Bodden is small at 195-pounds for a safety, but he's a pretty stout tackler & he has 18 career interceptions.

Forbes Magazine listed their top-10 & bottom-10 NFL owners. I wasn't too surprised at either list, but one name stuck out & it might catch you off guard. Chiefs' owner Clark Hunt was listed as the 7th worst owner. The criteria Forbes used for ranking the owners  was increase in franchise value & winning percentage over the past 5-years. Here's both lists:

Best NFL Owners
1.  Mara & Tisch--NY Giants
2.  Robt. Kraft--NE Patriots
3.  Jim Irsay--Colts
4.  100,000 stockholders--Green Bay
5.  Jerry Jones--Dallas
6.  Woody Johnson--NY Jets
7.  Alex Spanos--San Diego
8.  Tom Benson--New Orleans
9.  Dan Rooney--Pittsburgh
10. Steve Bisciotti--Baltimore

Worst NFL Owners
1.  William Clay Ford--Detroit(only NFL franchise to decline in value)
2.  Al Davis--Oakland(rankings were done before his death)
3.  Ralph Wilson--Buffalo
4.  Randy Lerner--Cleveland
5.  Mike Brown--Cincinnati
6.  Wayne Weaver--Jacksonville
7.  Clark Hunt--Kansas City
8.  Malcolm Glazer--Tampa Bay
9.  Daniel Snyder--Washington
10. Pat Bolden--Denver

I'm confused. The NFL named Detroit DE Cliff Avril the NFC defensive player of the week. He had a tremendous game against the lowly Denver Broncos, a 9.5 point underdog. Avril recorded 3 tackles, 1 for loss, 2 sacks, 1 other QB hit & he returned a Tim Tebow fumble 24-yards for a touchdown. Here's my confusion, how does Avril get the award over St. Louis DE Chris Long or Dallas OLB Demarcus Ware? Long stats were 3 tackles, all three for loss, 3 sacks, 1 pass batted down & 3 other QB hits. Long did this against the Saints mind you. Ware had a great game with 11 tackles, 5 for loss, 4 sacks, 4 other QB hits & a forced fumble. As I said earlier in the week, Ware's team got crushed, so his chances of winning were greatly diminished. But Long's Rams upset the heavily favored Saints giving them their first win of the season. That ought to be worth something.

Speaking of Avril, he & fellow Lion, Stephen Tulloch, got into something I thought was reprehensible in their game with Denver. After tackling Tebow, they would strike the pose Tebow takes when he prays on the field. It's known in some NFL locker rooms as "Tebowing." What the hell is that all about? I guarantee you if they had mocked any religion other than Christianity, these two would have been called on the carpet to apologize while the team & league quicly issued a statement condemning such behavior. If you've ever been to an NFL game, you know players from both teams participate in a prayer circle after the game. There's usually 25-30 players who fall to their knees in a circle at midfield & pray together. No one mocks them, but Tebow is fair game? How many times do we see someone scoring a touchdown & they take a knee for a quick prayer or signal upward to acknowledge their faith? I promise you I see 11-12 NFL games every week & this type of display happens a lot. But some NFL players & many online media types take shots at Tebow, constantly mocking him for his displays. Tebow isn't a good quarterback, probably never will be, but why do people feel the need to mock his faith? I think it's truly sad. I would have liked to see these two knuckleheads mock someone like Reggie White. Don't think that would've gone too far as the media would have lashed out. You know what part of this story that impresses me? The fact that Tebow won't acknowledge Tulloch's or Avril's antics, he says they don't hurt him, that's how strong his faith is, it keeps him very grounded.
