IT'S OFFICIAL-MIZZOU TO SEC IN 2012 & A TERRIBLE SCANDAL AT PENN STATE
It's over & done with, the University of Missouri officially joined the Southeastern Conference late Sunday afternoon. The SEC even had a confetti drop at the press conference to mark the joyous(?) occasion. Yes, Mizzou's sports future was decided by one man who never played a sport in his life & has a BA, masters & doctorate all connected to agriculture. So no question he was the right man to make this decision. He was aided in his deliberations by our pin-headed governor, Jay Nixon. While the federal government is trying to shove 1200 home owners off their lake-front property here, our governor is worried about moving Mizzou to the SEC. The people of Kansas City will lose millions of dollars in revenues but Nixon somehow missed that message. He's every bit as clueless as Dr. Brady Deaton, the man who was given carte blanche to decide Missouri's future. The president of the University of Kansas issued this statement about 6PM tonight:
"Missouri forfeits a century-old rivalry. We win."
I would expect nothing less from Kansas or any other Big-12 school. I expect the Jayhawks to be fired up on November 26th for the Border Showdown(formerly "Border War"). Jeez they're liable to score 10-13 points if they get riled up enough. Yes, tradition be damned, we've been saved by another academic who knows what's best for us.
Mizzou will be assigned a losing spot in the SEC East which includes Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Vanderbilt & South Carolina. They will probably lose their 2nd most fertile recruiting ground, the State of Texas, because of this move, but hey, Dr. Deaton knows what's best for us. He'll be retired in less than 10-years but we'll still be a middle-of-the-pack team in the SEC, so good decision Doc!
As bad as this conference-switch new is, it's paled by comparison to the mess at Penn State. Athletic Director Tim Curley & Vice president of Finance & Business Gary Schultz were told to resign Sunday after both were indicted by a Pennsylvania grand jury for perjury. They are accused of lying to another grand jury about numerous accounts of sexual abuse committed from 1998 to 2002 by former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky. Worse yet, many of the alleged incidents occurred on campus in the football facility. Even worse yet, it appears head coach Joe Paterno knew about these allegations way back in 2003 & other than telling Curley, he did nothing, he said nothing. The only thing that happened was the graduate assistant who witnessed Sandusky having sex with a teenage boy in a shower got promoted to a full time coaching position & to this day is still on Paterno's staff. I know this was supposed to be JoePa's last season, but he needs to go right now. Anyone & everyone who knew about this & kept it quiet or failed to tell the truth about it, should be fired immediately. If they can be prosecuted or held responsible thru civil litigation, all the better. Let's hope some of the Keystone State's finest ambulance chasers to get to work helping any or all of these kids who were victimized.
Sandusky is accused of having sex with young men brought out to the Penn State campus by a charity he founded. It was supposed to help troubled youth. My God in Heaven is this how we treat children who look to supposedly responsible & caring adults for help? This whole thing turns my stomach.
Alabama only dropped one spot in the BCS poll released Sunday night. Oklahoma State moved into the 2nd spot vacated by Bama, after losing 9-6 in overtime Saturday night to #1 LSU. Stanford remained #4 & Boise State at 5. So I guess if Oklahoma, currently ranked #6, beats OSU on December 3rd, that would vault Alabama right back into the #2 spot so they could have a rematch of the thrilling(yawn) 9-6 game? I know I can't wait for such an event, that way, no matter who wins, the SEC wins their 5th consecutive BCS title.
I'm sorry I'm in such a crappy mood, but many of the events of Sunday have pushed me there. Plus instead of getting started on about 3,500 words worth of posts around 10PM, I watched the live World Series of Poker final table until 1:30. Now I have to get these posts finished. I'm a moron way too often.
