OMG! THE CHIEFS & THE REST OF THE AFC WEST ARE DREADFUL
Gamblers call it a "Trap Game," one that looks easy, but usually blows up in your face. The Chiefs, fresh off a 4-game winning streak, laid a gigantic freakin' egg yesterday at Arrowhead, losing to the Miami Dolphins, a team that until yesterday, was winless. Worse yet was the score, 31-3 & honestly it wasn't even that close. Usually I can point out a decent performance by one or two guys, not yesterday, everyone wearing a Chiefs uni was dreadful. Every last one.
Todd Haley can now shave off his ridiculous beard now that their 4-game winning streak is kaput. By the way, did anyone else have trouble distinguishing the 0-7 team from the first place team in this game?
Do you realize in their 4 losses, the Chiefs have been outscored by a combined 140 to 30? Ladies & gentlemen, that's horrific. A 4-4 team that has been outscored by 70 points in 8 games. What's wrong with this picture?
As I watched this horrible effort by our Chiefs I figured the season was now lost, they would be a third place team by season's end. But then as the 3 o'clock games unfolded it became apparent the entire division is just as mediocre as the Chiefs. The Raiders played like, well they played like the Raiders, plenty of turnovers & penalties as they let the Denver Tebows score 24-unanswered points in the second half to lose 38-24 at home. Then Phillip Rivers uncorked another 3 interceptions, two run back for touchdowns & they lost 45-38 to Green Bay. So even tho Kansas City got thrashed 31-3 out at Arrowhead, they're still tied for 1st place in the NFL's worst division.
For those of you who hold out hope for a Western Division crown, those loyal few who say "Hey, anything can happen if you can just get to the playoffs." Let me clear this up for you right now, Chiefs' fans will be charged 150% for each playoff ticket to watch another "one & done" postseason. Unless the opposing quarterback is injured getting off the bus, or slips on his ass coming down the ramp before the game, the Chiefs don't have a shot in hell of winning. Do you honestly believe this team, the one we watched yesterday, minus Eric Berry, Jamaal Charles & Tony Moeaki is really going anywhere? They're at best a .500 team & they're not going to get better magically by January 1st when the season ends in Denver.
So what went wrong? I told you after the Monday night gift from Phillip Rivers they had to take the Dolphins seriously. Miami was playing hard every week, in fact in their 0-7 run, they had a smaller point differential than the 4-3 Chiefs. They came out smokin' yesterday & Haley's team had no answers on how to stop them. Reggie Bush ran thru the defense, a quarterback worse than Matt Cassel went 17 of 23 for 244-yards & 3 touchdowns. They didn't give up a sack(big friggin' surprise) while nailing Cassel 5 times & flushing him from the pocket at least 10-times with their blitz pressure our offensive line had no way of stopping. Cassel became so gun shy, he missed wide open receivers even when he had time to throw. Is there any reason to keep feeding the ball to Thomas Jones? He has 200-yards on the season on 66-carries, 3.0 per carry plus 3 receptions for 4-yards.
Reserve safety Donald Washington made two bad plays for every good one. Tyson Jackson & Glenn Dorsey combined for two tackles. Andy Studebaker & Justin Houston, splitting time at left outside linebacker combined for 1 tackle. D.J. got burned by TE Anthony Fasano for a touchdown as did Washington. For over a quarter, the Chiefs continued to bite on play-action & Miami had only run the ball two friggin' times!
Now let's talk offensive line. The interior guys were shoved around pretty much all day. Right tackle Barry Richardson got 2 more holding penalties. TE Jake O'Connell got a holding penalty, just like I opined last week, "if he plays, he gets a penalty.' RB Jackie Battle dropped a sure 1st down pass as did TE Leonard Pope.
Special teams weren't exempt either. Kick returner Dexter McCluster continues to bring kickoffs out of the endzone & then fails to make it to the 20-yardline. This gives an anemic offense even worse field position. Punter Dustin Colquitt & long snapper Thomas Gafford don't ever make my sh*t list, but yesterday they did. Colquitt kicked a short punt that bounced back up field almost 20-yards giving him a net of 11-yards. Gafford didn't get the message he was supposed to snap the ball to placekicker Ryan Succop so he could pooch punt the ball. Instead he centered it to the holder Colquitt who, after being totally surprised, did his best impression of Garo Yepremian(you'll get it if you're old) by running two steps toward the line of scrimmage & whiff on a pass that had a less than zero percent chance of completion.
It was a total team effort, led by the bearded one, Todd Haley. But Scott Pioli has to take some of the heat too, he just hasn't stocked this roster with quality NFL-type depth. Too many Donald Washington's & Sabby Piscatelli's, Jake O'Connell's & Leonard Pope's. I find it hard to stomach the fall-off from Tony Moeaki to Leonard Pope. And when will we ever see another dependable, consistent, aggressive & productive pass rush? Nine stinkin' sacks in 8 games, 5 of them by Tamba Hali. Mr. Pioli, Mr. Haley, Mr. Crennell, that won't get it done.

The fact that I agree with almost everything you said in this article kinda scares me. Have you become less idiotic or is it possible I've seen the light. The group I go to the game with was really unhappy yesterday, mad was more like it. Our football team is way too erratic and I hope I don't have to shell out $150 for a playoff ticket to watch them get crushed yet again.
