PATERNO FIRED BY PENN STATE BOARD OF TRUSTEES
In a move that had to be done, the board of trustees from Penn State University has fired legendary football coach Joe Paterno & university president Graham Spanier. It has become clear watching the board's news conference going on right now, they gave Paterno an ultimatum to resign now or they would take action. The 84-year old coach who basically has carte blanche to do whatever he wants for decades, issued a statement this afternoon stating he would retire at the end of the season. The board didn't want to hear that & they acted accordingly to dismiss Paterno. Spanier had to go after his ridiculously callous remarks when athletic director Tim Curley & V.P. of Business & Finance, Gary Shultz were arrested on perjury charges. He said he was giving his "unconditional support" to these two without mentioning the victims in this case.
There are early reports of a major demonstration on the Penn State campus & some minor disturbances in the downtown area. I'll have more later as the story develops.
