PENN STATE SCANDAL WORSENS....IF THAT'S POSSIBLE
The Pennsylvania State Police said tonight another former Second Mile member had come forward & told authorities he too had been victimized by Jerry Sandusky. Why do I have the feeling this is only the tip on a very large iceberg?

Jerry Sandusky being taken into custody over the weekend
I said earlier today I was appalled at the quote from Penn State's president Graham Spanier. I said his quote of giving A.D. Tim Curley & V.P. of Business & Finance Gary Schultz "unconditional support" was completely misguided & he'd likely have to eat his words within 48-hours. It didn't even take that long. One of the mother's of a Sandusky victim said tonight:
"To see that Graham Spanier is putting his unconditional support behind Curley & Schultz when he should be putting his support behind the victims. It just makes them victims al over again."
She's absolutely right, it was incredibly insensitive to make such a statement in public. Like I said, this will cause him more trouble than he imagined when he uttered these words. The Penn State Board of Curators said in a statement they were "outraged" by the allegations & by Spanier's comment. See ya Graham, I think that means you're on your way out the door.
Joe Paterno's regular Tuesday news conference was cancelled at the last minute by university officials. The 84-year old coach went out onto his front lawn later in the day to speak to supporters who lined the sidewalk. He mentioned the children in passing saying "We should say a prayer for them." Sorry coach, you're way late on that idea. How about you ring the alarm bell & warn parents to keep their children away from Jerry Sandusky. Why did Paterno allow these sleaze ball to maintain an office in the football facility. Why did he allow this pedophile on school property? Hey, I hate to see anyone I held in high esteem go down in flames, but Paterno has to go. Forget about all the good things he did, I know that sounds harsh, but what if one of these boys was your son? What would your take be then?
I got so many emails & comments on Facebook from people who were genuinely disgusted by this story, more than anything I've written that didn't pertain to the Chiefs. I got one from a lifelong friend who's husband had played at Penn State. She had met many of the people in this story & was devastated. Another friend from back east who has had business dealings with a few of these pillars of Nittany Lion society, described in detail the climate around the football program. He told me of the "Penn State Mafia," powerful people who control the livelihoods of so many people associated with the university. Control that could make or break a person in this town. Another email came from a regular reader who told me two of his cousins had played at PSU in the nineties. He had spoken to one of them who said he called in sick Tuesday morning because he couldn't stop trembling & hadn't slept for nearly 3 days.
The great grandson of Amos Alonzo Stagg, Hall of Fame coach, said their family has considered asking the BIG TEN Conference to change the name of the league's championship trophy. It has been known as the Stagg-Paterno Championship Trophy & the Stagg family would like that changed. I assume they'd like to have the "Paterno" portion dropped from the name, they weren't specific. I don't know, maybe they want their family's name removed from anything Paterno.

Folks, there's no way to calculate the damage that's already been done to this prestigious university & it's storied football program. Like I said earlier, it's just the tip of a very large iceberg. There's just no way to know how long it will take to rebuild this football team. I expect every single coach to be terminated & a number of administrators. It may take more than a decade to fully recover. Two 4-star recruits who were leaning toward Penn State said Tuesday night they'd go elsewhere. You know who else this harms? Big Brothers & Big Sisters, a group that has mentored young boys & girls for decades without any problems. But people will have doubts about the sincerity of this organization which is a tragedy, they have helped tens of thousands of kids. Think it won't be tough raising money for BB & BS in Pennsylvania? That's too bad because there are more kids in need than mentors & anything that diminishes the ability of Big Brothers to do what they do best, help kids, is more fallout from this monster's rampage thru so many young men.
