MIZZOU LOWERS THE FINANCIAL BOOM ON PINKEL

University of Missouri Athletic Director Mike Alden issued a statement this afternoon detailing the punishment for head football coach Gary Pinkel who was arrested for a DWI last night. Pinkel will be suspended until Thanksgiving Day & is to have no contact with his team during this suspension. Defensive coordinator Dave Steckel will assume the head coaching responsibilities until Pinkel returns. The financial penalties are as follows:

Forfeit 2 weeks base pay                   $  13K
Forfeit social & academic incentives       100K
Forfeit 2 weeks guaranteed incentives     68K
Forfeit bowl bonus for 2011                   75K
Forfeit salary increase for 2012             _50K
Total                                              $ 306,000

Regardless of what Pinkel makes, this is a severe financial penalty. I think it is his one & only chance to avoid repeating the offense or he will be referred to as "former Mizzou coach."
