CHIEFS CLAIM ORTON, BUT WILL HE REPORT?
I've been running around town doing last minute errands before our Thanksgiving company arrives & was completely out of touch with the big 4PM Eastern NFL waiver wire announcement. The Chiefs put in a claim for ex-Bear & Bronco quarterback, Kyle Orton. The Cowboys & Bears also claimed him but by virtue of their "lesser record" the Chiefs were awarded the veteran signal-caller. If you read the post I wrote earlier this morning right below this one, I didn't see Kansas City pulling the trigger on Orton, I was wrong. John Clayton went on ESPN this morning to "warn" the Chiefs Orton would consider not reporting if they claimed him. It was probably a call to Clayton from Orton's agent that prompted the storyline. So what if he doesn't report? After five days he would be in violation of his contract, he would forfeit the remaining $2.5 million owed to him this season & he could face sanctions from the league as to his free agent status next year. That's just the guy you want running your team, a guy who makes it crystal clear he wants to be elsewhere(Chicago). But it doesn't always go the way you want it, the Chiefs didn't want anything to do with Orton two weeks ago, but now they've decided to show their fans they haven't given up for the season. More tonight.
Hello Rich
Bradley in Denver calling. I disagree
with you. Kyle could be an immediate
impact for KC. I was a 30+yrs Bronc fan.
Till Tebowing and the two Johns(coach and VP). Best wishes to Orton and KC.
Kyle can be and will be a good QB.

Bradley,
I don't think we disagree much on Orton being a major upgrade over Palko. My question is can he stay alive behind a shaky O-line? My other problem regarding Orton is he made it clear he didn't want to come to KC. I find that something to be concerned about. Honestly, Orton is a better passer than Cassel, but his lack of mobility......
We'll see what happens, I think he'll be the starter by next Sunday.
Thanks for reading & don't hesitate to leave your comments.

Rich,
I am torn by the Orton pick up. He will provide competition at the position, he will be an instant upgrade to the QB position as a whole. He could be better with us considering all the weapons we have. Pelco was lobbing the medium range throws, so, I don't think he is the answer. But, by claiming Orton, we might not know what we have in Stanzi and thus not draft a QB to build with.
Hope you had a great Thanksgiving.

Andy,
You're correct that Orton will be an instant upgrade over Palko. In fact he's a better passer than Cassel but his lack of mobility might be a serious problem behind this line. You're also correct about Stanzi, with Orton, I doubt he'll see any action, but I still think he'll be here next season, something I can't say about Palko.
You & your family have a happy Thanksgiving Day today & thanks for writing.
