A FEW NOTES FOR WEDNESDAY
Ndamukong Suh has appealed his two-game suspension hoping to get it reduced by one game. NFL Hall of Fame tackle Art Shell will hear his appeal & make a decision by Sunday morning according to a league source. Shell & Ted Cottrell preside over all appeals. Cottrell was a longtime defensive coach for numerous NFL teams including the Chiefs.
The Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator Larry Coyer was fired on Tuesday. He won't be the last coach handed a pink slip for Indy. The team also moved QB Dan Orlovsky into the starting role in place of Curtis Painter. Does it seem like these moves are intended to detract from the Colts' 0-11 record? Just askin'.
Houston signed Jake Delhomme to provide veteran leadership at the quarterback position. He could be starting soon if rookie T. J. Yates falters. Both Matt Schaub & Matt Leinart were placed on I.R.
The Cleveland Browns cut long snapper Ryan Pontbriand Tuesday. He made two bad snaps in the past three weeks, costing the Browns the chance to defeat St. Louis & Cincinnati. Knew this was coming.
If the Minnesota Vikings can't sell 3,000+ non-premium seats before Thursday noon, they'll have their first local TV blackout in 14-years. With new stadium proposals being considered, now is not the time for a TV blackout. Minnesota ownership needs to step up & buy the tickets to keep the 2-9 Vikes televised locally.
After releasing offensive tackle Jared Gaither early Tuesday, they promoted OT David Mims to the 53-man roster from the practice squad. The mammoth rookie tackle from Virginia Union was a favorite of mine before the draft. I wanted K.C. to sign him as an undrafted free agent & they did. He just might become a good right tackle in this league.

Chris sent me an email wanting to know my opinion of the Chiefs' running backs. Jamaal Charles is a top-5 RB in the league, let's hope he comes back strong next summer. Thomas Jones is finished, he won't be back in 2012. Jackie Battle amazed me at times this season. He's a serviceable backup who should be retained. As for Dexter McCluster, he's been a major disappointment in my eyes. He hasn't proven to be the game breaker he was advertised to be. Bill Muir keeps running him between the tackles which is O.K. once in a while, but anything over 3 carries per game in there is counter-productive. I wonder if he'll ever be the producer we hoped for when he was drafted. I have serious doubts.
Don took issue with my assessment of Glenn Dorsey, thinks he's been a solid DE. He said the 3-4 defensive ends #1 priority was to occupy blockers, not make tackles & get sacks. Sorry Don, I couldn't disagree more strongly. The teams that play or played this defense well, New England, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Houston, Dallas, Green Bay & San Francisco have one thing in common, their defensive ends put pressure on the quarterback & get sacks. Ty Warren & Richard Seymour recorded nearly 60 sacks while they played with the Patriots. Baltimore's D-line finished with 14-sacks last season & the Texans' defensive line currently has 16 in 11 games. Glenn Dorsey has 4 sacks in his entire career, Tyson Jackson has 1. They do not & will not ever be a factor in the pass rush for Kansas City.
