ASK AND YE SHALL RECEIVE...HALEY CANNED 30-MINUTES AGO
According to their website, "the Kansas City Chiefs have relieved Todd Haley of his duties as head coach immediately." No word who who will become interim coach. I'm hoping for anyone but Romeo Crennell, I don't want to lose him as defensive coordinator. Let's hope for Maurice Caurthon or Jim Zorn as I doubt they'll have much shelf life after the season ends.
This is the right decision as I discussed my my buddy Chuck up in the city this morning & the sooner the better. Now we need to lose Scott Pioli as well.
**UPDATE AT 11am CENTRAL TIME
The Chiefs have confirmed defensive coordinator Romeo Crennell will become interim head coach.

Great, wonderful, good news, about time!

Couldn't believe how quickly this happened. I was just bitching about this an hour ago and he gets fired. Good deal. Who do you think we'll get for a new head coach?

The first place I read this e-mail lightly suggested Josh McDaniels as the next head coach. Please, no.

Darryll,
I've never been a fan of McDaniels, anyone who's been on this site for a year or so knows that. I think Sam bradford has regressed terribly under his tutelage. When you can wreck a 5-star prospect, what positive influence will you have on a marginal QB like Matt Cassel? I know he was a coach in NE when Cassel started for Brady in 2008, but let's not compare the '08 Patriot roster to the current Chiefs, not even close. I fear this is going to be Pioli's choice unless Clark Hunt has a feel for how negative his hiring could have on ticket sales.

I'm hearing Josh McDaniels & Jeff Fisher-any thoughts? Your analysis of this football team is amazing.

See my opinion on McDaniels above.
As to Jeff Fisher, I like him a lot. But with Fisher comes a major problem. His background has always been on defense & he's always been a 4-3 guy, meaning the defense would get changed again. Which means people would have to change positions or leave because they aren't right for this defense. It also most likely means the departure of Romeo Crennell, always a 3-4 guy. With all the deficiencies on offense, changing the defense out would make our transition to a competitive team would take even longer. I for one, am sick of promises & waiting.
