TIGERS PLAYING FOR SEC RESPECT & BREES GO FOR MARINO'S RECORD

Half-page ad in Friday's edition of the Shreveport Times paid for by LSU
How classy was this move by #1 LSU? Obviously, they won't be rooting for Mizzou down the road when they become part of the Southeastern Conference, but as long as they're playing in bowls or out of conference games, winning is always good for the SEC.
I really respect North Carolina's front seven on defense. DE Quinton Coples will be a high 1st round pick in April's NFL Draft. The Tar Heels can both run & pass the ball effectively as well. But UNC's biggest obstacle is their coaching staff. Since Butch Davis was fired, they've had two different interim coaches & now the one coaching today, Everrett Withers, is leaving for Ohio State. The current coaching staff is as good as gone with Withers' departure & new coach Larry Fedora already assembling parts of a new staff. I just wonder how focused this coaching staff was preparing for this game & are the players feeling somewhat abandoned by their coaches?
I've never been a big fan of Gary Pinkel's bowl game coaching. I hope he turns these kids loose & let's the playmakers win this game. UNC had no answer for Clemson's Tajh Boyd or Va Tech's Logan Thomas, dual-threat QB's similar to James Franklin. Look for hometown Shreveport product L'Damien Washington to have a major impact for the Tigers, he led the team in yards-per-catch. With the added importance of LSU's support, I think Mizzou will play with extreme confidence & win. Mizzou 31 North Carolina 21
Right after the Independence Bowl, we've got Atlanta at New Orleans on Monday Night Football. Drew Brees will be after Dan Marino's all-time single season passing record of 5,084-yards. Brees currently has 4,784, so unless he gets injured, he'll have the record tonight or by next Sunday. Brees' main competition for NFL MVP is of course Aaron Rodgers, who tore it up last night with a 5-touchdown passes, giving him 45 for the season. I think if the game gets out of hand, look for Saints coach Sean Peyton to pump up Brees' stats. The Saints were my Super Bowl pick before the season began & tho it might be close for a half, New Orleans wins tonight.....comfortably.
No radio show tonight, moved to tomorrow night due to the Independence Bowl. Same time, same show, same "Predict the Score Contest." Mrs. Rich's Football Report will be an in-studio guest. Tune in tomorrow night.
