NATION'S #1 QB PROSPECT TO LSU, PENN STATE MAY NOT GET TO CHOOSE & MY FIRST CHIEFS' MOCK DRAFT
Indiana's Gunner Kiel shocked the college football world when the #1 ranked quarterback in the nation chose his home state University of Indiana. Not known as a QB factory, in fact tell me someone from IU other than Trent Green to make it as a QB in the NFL. Then a few weeks ago, Kiel announced he was re-opening his recruiting, hearts sunk at Bloomington. Late last week it was thought his choices were down to Notre Dame & Vanderbilt. Then yesterday he announced he was going to LSU. I've watched a lot of tape on this kid & he has a bright future with good coaching. I'm thinkin' he's going to get that at Baton Rouge.
Clemson's number two receiver, DeAndre Hopkins was involved in an automobile accident yesterday morning. He was on his way to the campus to board a bus for the airport to take them to Miami for the Orange Bowl. Hopkins received a concussion but no other injuries. It is unknown at this time if he'll be allowed to play next Wednesday night. Hopkins caught 62-passes good for 871-yards & 4 touchdowns this season.
Did anyone notice the Mizzou Tigers haven't lost a game, football or basketball, since November 6th, the day they announced the move to the Southeastern Conference. Weird huh? The hoops squad's first big conference test will be at Kansas State January 7th, they should be 14-0 by then.
Penn State is going to have a lot of trouble recruiting a big name head coach. The job has two inherent problems. One, you have to follow JoePa, college football's winningest coach with 409 victories. Two, this Sandusky mess may not go away for years, keeping the program under a microscope & a cloud of shame. Just not the best situation to put yourself into if you can keep from it. The number of name coaches who have already said no reached four this morning when former Penn State All-American guard & current tennessee Titans head coach, Mike Munchak, said without question, he's not interested in this job. Boise State's Chris Petersen turned them down last Friday, for the second time in two weeks. Interim coach Tom Bradley might have to assume the position on a permanent basis out of default. This isn't going to get any better very soon for Nittany Lion faithful.
It took some doing, but the Cincinnati Bengals got it done, they sold enough non-premium seats to lif the blackout for Sunday's home game with the Ravens. The team offered a "buy one get one" deal to season ticket holders & it worked. Cincy's crucial game with Baltimore for a playoff spot will be televised locally.
Jason Taylor announced he's going to retire after Sunday's game with the Jets. The Dolphin defensive end/outside linebacker made the Pro Bowl 6-times playing for Miami, Washington & the Jets. He has 139 lifetime sacks & 47 forced fumbles. Definite Hall of Fame credentials.

Jay Cutler was placed on the injured reserve list along with Bears RB Matt Forte this morning. So even if Chicago waded thru all the playoff scenarios & found themselves in, Cutler wouldn't be able to play. Shame what happened to the Bears after he was injured.
You asked for it, a Chiefs' mock draft, so here goes. My choices are based on what I've seen in college football & obvious Chiefs' needs.
1. Jonathan Martin--OT--Stanford 6' 6" 304 Smart, tough left tackle. Run or pass blocking, he's excellent.

2. Coby Fleener--TE--Stanford 6' 6" 252 Deadly redzone receiver, 32 receptions this season, 10 touchdowns plus gives a great effort blocking.

3. Doug Martin--RB--Boise State 5' 8" 213 Extremely tough to knock off his feet with his low center of gravity. Excellent running between the tackles & on screens.

4. George Iloka--S--Boise State 6' 3" 216 Good instincts, big hitter, great ball skills.

5. Marvin McNutt--WR--Iowa 6' 2" 213 Top-3 hands in college ball, good route runner & a clutch performer for past three seasons, 165-receptions & 28 touchdowns.

6. Brandon Brooks--OG--Miami(OH) 6' 3" 332 Mauler-type, something the Chiefs need.

7. Dominique Hamilton--DE--Mizzou 6' 5" 306 Has improved every year, very interested to see him at the combine but the kids a winner.
