A FEW NOTES FOR TUESDAY
I said about 4 weeks ago the Chicago Bears should fire their general manager Jerry Angelo for leaving a playoff caliber team with no better backup QB than Caleb Hanie. Angelo got canned a few hours ago. Lovie Smith with remain as coach, but offensive coordinator Mike Martz may be relieved of his duties. I'm not starting any rumors & I don't want to think that this might happen but........

No way, no how......right?
Jeff Fisher is in Miami this morning interviewing for the vacant Dolphin job. He's also expected to be in the mix for the Rams vacancy too.
Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin(personally my favorite coach) said today he would not allow safety Ryan Clark to play in Denver this Sunday after consulting with team doctors. Clark had a dangerous reaction to playing at altitude a few years ago. He lost his spleen, gall bladder & 30-pounds after a sickle cell-like blood reaction to exertion at altitude. It cost him 7 games as well & the Steelers don't want to risk further injury, illness or absence for the veteran safety.
I forgot to mention Sunday night that Green Bay left tackle Chad Clifton played a few series in their game with Detroit. His return is vital for the Pack's chances in the playoffs. He had missed six games with a strained hamstring. He's not back to full strength, but he has 2 weeks to get there.
I have a question I want you to ponder over the next few days & I'll give you the answer. Which NFL general manager has the longest tenure?
I was a little taken aback by the broadcasters doing the Fiesta Bowl last night. With :52 left in the game, 3 timeouts remaining & the ball on the Oklahoma State 25-yard line, Stanford coach David Shaw decided to take the ball out of Andrew Luck's hands & put the responsibility for winning the game on the toe of a redshirt freshman kicker. Neither Matt Millen or Sean McDonough made much of an issue out of Shaw's decision that ultimately cost them the game. Don't get me wrong, I was rooting for the Cowboys, I was thrilled he did what he did, but I thought it was a real blunder. Everyone is quick to say Shaw is the Cardinal coach of the future, but truth be told, this wasn't his team, it was Jim Harbaugh's team. It has a number of top NFL prospects including Luck. I was shocked at Shaw's decision to play the remaining 52-seconds the way they did. If he makes more decisions like the one he made last night, he'll be coaching elsewhere very soon. He won't have Luck & company to bail him out of those decisions.

Rich... does your GM question come loaded with a sneaky twist?

I guess you could say it's slightly tricky but go team by team & you'll get it.

OK Rich. Tricky question but I got it. Dallas' owner Jerry Jones is also the team's president and official GM, and has been since 1989, making him the longest tenured GM in the NFL to date.
Now, I have a big question for you regarding the Chiefs interview of Packers OC Joe Philbin. If Philbin happens to impress and become the new Chiefs HC, is that part of a plan to attract Matt Flynn from GB and clean out the current QBs in house?

John,
Congrats on correctly answering the GM question.
Regarding Philbin, I don't see him being the mix for the Chiefs job & here's why. When Pioli waited on Todd Haley to finish the Super Bowl with Arizona, they got an extremely late start to assembling their staff & the team & organization suffered. I honestly believe Hunt/Pioli want their new HC in place by the first of next week so they can start signing assistants. It's going to be Romeo Crennell, the rest is window dressing IMO.

Makes sense. It looks as if Josh McDaniels is staying in STL, as he is the only coach to survive the staff wipeout there.
Who do you see on the radar in KC for the OC job, should Romeo advance to the top job permanently?
And, how about adding some backup QB options to that qeustion.
