RG3 IS GOING PRO, A NUMBER OF COACHING MOVES & WHO WILL CRENNEL TAP TO BE HIS NEW O-C?
Baylor All-American quarterback & Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III is taking his game to the next level. He told bears' coach Art Briles this afternoon he would be leaving Waco for the NFL. This move starts the domino effect. St. Louis, sitting with the 2nd overall pick & assuming the incoming head coach is satisfied with current QB Sam Bradford, the Rams now have a helluva lot of leverage. It makes their franchise more attractive to Jeff Fisher, who is currently deciding between the Rams & Dolphins. It gives the new GM, whoever that is, draft leverage with teams who want to trade up for a shot at RG3. Both Cleveland & Washington, currently sitting at 4th & 6th, might want to trade up for Griffin. St. Louis could reap some real rewards for such a trade for moving down just 2-4 spots. They could realize at least two first round picks & possibly a 2nd, a decent bounty for the 2nd overall pick. St. Louis should thank RG3 profusely, he really helped this franchise with his declaration.

Boise State offensive coordinator Brent Pease was in great demand from some storied programs. He narrowed his suitors down to Florida & Alabama as possible new locations to ply his trade. Tuesday Pease decided to go Gator, he'll replace Charlie Weis as Florida's O-C.
I told you earlier about the Raiders firing head coach Hue Jackson. He said a lot of things after being shown the door, claiming new GM Reggie McKenzie was going to gut the teams coaching staff & administration. Now he's changed his tune, saying it was Mark Davis, the son of late owner Al Davis, who fired him. Hue is somewhat of a loose cannon.
After the regular season ended, Jets head coach Rex Ryan & GM Mike Tannenbaum said their coaching staff would remain intact. That lasted about a week. Offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer "stepped down" on Tuesday. That's the nice way of saying he was asked to leave, they paid him a good portion of the remaining 2-years of his contract & made a politically correct statement about his departure. Not long after that was announced, offensive line coach & assistant head coach Bill Callaghan told Ryan he was leaving to accept a similar job with the Cowboys. Next up wide receivers coach Henry Ellard was let go. Look for ex-Dolphins coach Tony Sparano to take Schottenheimer's spot as early as today.
The Jacksonville Jaguars announced late this evening they had hired former Atlanta offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey to be their new head coach. Mularkey is a very good QB coach & coordinator, something rookie Blaine Gabbert needs, quality coaching. Now they'll need to get him some real NFL-type receivers.
A very sad note out of Wisconsin. Packers offensive coordinator Joe Philbin was notified by police his 21-year old son, who had been missing since late Saturday night, was found at the bottom of a river in Oshkosh Wisconsin. He had been linked to several head coaching vacancies late last week before his son's disappearance.
How big a deal was the Broncos overtime win against the Steelers late Sunday? Quarterback Tim Tebow will receive a $250,000 bonus for a playoff win, that's how big a deal it is.
Remember "The Catch?" Joe Montana's dramatic 4th quarter touchdown pass to Dwight Clark that sent the Forty-Niners to their first Super Bowl? That catch which beat the Dallas Cowboys was thirty years ago today.

So who will become the Chiefs new offensive coordinator? I have a number of possible candidates for your consideration. Current QB coach Jim Zorn is a possibility, he's worked with Crennel & Matt Cassel. How about former Raider head coach Hue Jackson? He's got somewhat of a big mouth, but the guy does know how to put a gameplan together & call it on Sunday. Jacksonville O-C Dirk Koetter is also a possibility. But my choice would be an out of the box-type choice for Pioli & Crennel, former Chiefs offensive coordinator Al Saunders. There are stories about how he felt screwed by the Hunts & Carl Peterson. He was allegedly promised the head coaching position after Dick Vermeil retired, but Peterson hired Herm Edwards instead. Saunders knows how to move the ball, I think he'd be a great choice. As far as a defensive coordinator, a former assistant to Crennel in Cleveland might be the man. Former Jacksonville defensive line coach & interim head coach Mel Tucker could be considered for the position. Bottom line for any improvement out of the Chiefs will only come with a significant upgrade in the talent level of this roster. Near the end of the Romeo Crennel press conference, Scott Pioli said "I need to do my job better." I've been saying that for three years now, you're on the clock Scott.
