FISHER CHOOSES THE RAMS, BOWL RATINGS & ATTENDENCE DECLINES & GREEN BAY NEEDS STRONG BACKS
The wait is over in South Florida & the gateway City, Jeff Fisher has chosen the St. Louis Rams as his future employer. The wait was becoming somewhat tedious, but in the end, I think he made the right choice. The Rams just had too many positives to be ignored. Sam Bradford already in place, a great running back, some excellent young defensive talent, the 2nd overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft & the most available salary cap for 2012. Yeah, it's probably not as glamorous as South beach, but Fisher played in Chicago & coached in Houston & Nashville, so I doubt the city's nightlife was ever a consideration. I will be interested to see not only his choices for coordinators, but who the Rams choose as general manager.
The TV ratings for the entire 2010-2011 college bowl season are in & the news isn't good. Twenty-one bowls declined in television ratings from last season & 18 of them were double-digit drops. The 5 BCS bowls lost 8% from last season. The Fiesta Bowl was the only BCS game that showed an increase in ratings, a whopping 56%. Think of what the BCS ratings would be without the Oklahoma State-Stanford Fiesta Bowl, pretty scary. More bad news for the bowl people, in-house attendance averaged less than 51,000 per game. That's the first drop below 51K since 1979. I guess all of us who railed about there being too many bowls & too many bad matchups were onto something. Now out of the blue, NCAA President Mark Emmert says he supports a 4-team playoff system. It's what I've been saying all along, they'll never lift a finger to change anything until they start seeing a decrease in revenues. Well now they've experienced those drops in revenues, all of a sudden a playoff is acceptable. The sheer hypocrisy is staggering.
Bill Callahan will become the Cowboys' new offensive coordinator, but head coach Jason Garrett, who has called Dallas' plays for 4-years, will continue with that responsibility.
The Denver Broncos will be without long snapper Lonnie Paxton who left the team for a family emergency. Coach John Fox sounded quite serious when he mentioned Paxton's absence. No word on who they will use to center their kicking attempts. This could be a huge deal for the Broncos.
Need some extra money to get out from under some of those holiday credit card bills? iIf you live near Green Bay Wisconsin & have a strong back I have good news. The Packers need over 100 people to dig Lambeau Field out from under a foot of snow. They're offering $10 an hour, so there you go, I'm throwing you a lifeline.
